When I got the strips done for the base I had them slightly oversize so I could hand finish them whilst trying in the slot.

Its still got its original 78 year starter which works well

I still have a few jobs to day like fit the brass into the table and the lip of the slider. I don't have a pillar drill anymore so I'll leave these bits until I finish my next machine which is going to be one of these.
I also need to make a table release and get the mitres machined up

Wallace, I have looked at this thread in absolute awe, one day I hope to A) Get me a PK some day B) Restore it to a high standard as you have done.
Hey Wallace, any pics on the mitres ? What did you make them out of ?
I got a few cast in bronze, I got them machined up a while back but havent had a chance to get the fixings done yet.
Speaking of PK parts cast in bronze, a guy I've been communicating with in Dunedin (NZ) bought a PK a few months back. It had a non-OEM crown guard (but original arms) and a damaged blade flask. He borrowed the appropriate parts from a local joinery shop and approached a local foundry - looking to have copies cast in aluminium. But the foundry specialised in bronze castings - and these are the result.

Very nice . I hope to see these in the flesh, mid-October.

Nice one! That would polish up really well with a bit of work! Was it quite costly?
I'd have to ask Bob for permission before passing on the costs. I thought the blade flash was quite costly (quite a complex casting I suppose). The crown guard was reasonably priced. I was tempted to ask for one for my own saw to replace my slightly battered aluminium guard), but Bob didn't offer and I believe he'd given the original back to the joinery shop.
Cheers, Vann.
Those castings look really well done. The mitres I had done were around £175 per half to cast
Thats probably what your up for (if not more) in finding one that comes up online.
A few little job and then its done, the handle for the cross slide needed tarting up a bit.

Then I needed a pin to centre the tail stock, the only stuff I could find was an old stair rod

Took me a couple of attempts to get the taper correct, its only 1mm

In our town we have one of those hardware shops that reminds me of the two ronnies sketch, '4 candles', it has an owner in brown overcoat that finds your stuff. The town is dying but this place is still surviving. Anyway whilst he was getting my order I noticed some rolls of rope for wood burners I think. I thought it would be perfect for the electrical door gasket. £1.5O

I then had the bright idea to make something for the spindle locking pin to go

I was feeling pretty pleased with myself and stood back to look at my work, I then realised I'd messed up. This lathe didn't come with a banjo so I pinched the one off my lathe. Only problem is its a 1O" version.

Look how high the tool rest is

It took me a while to find the correct size, I had to buy another lathe.
