Same things for the rear table.Obviously you need to set the rear table to the cutter head circle for the way up.

They could also be set to limit the maximum amount of timber able to be jointed at one pass.Say 5 or 6mm limit on depth rather than the 20mm the depth of cut gauge shows.

It does mean though that you can also set the rear table down to be able to plane in between two points as in the bottom of a table sled foot. Then hopefully be able to return to the zero point again.
So apart from the lever that controls the parallelogram movement you have these extra knobs to restrict that main levers up and down movement range, I only haver the depth gauge (pic attached) to give an indication of how much I have moved the infeed bed.

I do have a similar gauge reading in mm's for the depth of cut.It was a bit gummed up but seems to be freeing up and will probably get better with some more use when it gets into the shed.
The travel stop makes sense in regards to lifting the table towards the cutters.
    Cheers from Micheal.

Yes mine sticks a bit I think it is spring loaded.

I don't think the bed on mine moves is such a way that it could come in contact with the blades.

You said in a earlier post that your bed was worn where the fence slides across it, you could stick some metal shims or even put a bead of weld in that area and grind it back to fill in the years of wear

I will assess it once it goes back together to see if the fence stays square across its travel.

I sprayed plenty of lube around the pivot pin of the height gauge. Then I rocked it back and forth from above using a rubber tip on a stick poked down through the slot after taking the plastic cover off.Makes the cover easy to clean up at the same time.It is designed as an over centre weight to follow the table movement and should free up more some with use.
    Cheers from Micheal.

Have had the motor pulled to bits ,dried out from the flood and new bearings but haven't put the jointer back together yet.Still unsure about the big fella going into my small workshop.

If you can get it to fit then you won't look back, the long infeed bed is great for straightening stock.

I have used these before and they are a great table for jointing any length boards.

I like the width and length for twisted boards which can be easily averaged and supported by a rear finger for the first pass or two.

It seems to have taken a long time but the Super 500 is now in the workshop.

A bit of wiring and dust extraction to get organised but that is all part of the fun.

The size comparison is interesting after having the Wadkin RD16 in there for years now.Always thought it was a great old machine and a bit sad to see it leave the shed.

The sticks on top of the RD16 were to help gauge the size and position of the Super 500.Height had to be kept down to allow the sliding table saw to pass over it.I was originally going to drop the big thicknesser down to be able to pass timber under the jointer fence but for now I am going to try working with sliding the fence over to get full width through the thicknesser.

The spherical bearings for the cutter head were about $75 for the pair which I think quite cheap.

Finished a few bits off today.Dust extraction for the Super 500 and re-plumbed the others off the same line.Put some fillets inside the dust chute to smooth the 90deg corners and it works fine.Holds a little in the corners still but the lid lifts off to allow a quick squirt of air to clean it all out.

Made the knob for the fence on Saturday and it came up nice. Not sure what that plastic is but it sure came off the lathe nice. The thread seats in a round bottom slot so I rounded the end of the rod to suit.Much easier to use than needing an Allen key to adjust it.

As is usually the case with these things there is no real work for it to do at the moment.

It is a beast though and the test cuts are nice.

Just have to convince myself to sell the RD16 now.I would like to see it go to a good home as it has served me very well for a long time without any drama at all.
    Cheers from Micheal.

Mounted the old power feed from the RD16 onto the Super 500.

Drive wheels are quite small diameter compared to original specs. (56mm to 80mm) but it has four speeds so no real problem.

For those who have never used a jointer with a power feed it is really nice when you have a lot of dressing to do.

    Hi Micheal,
You have the power feed located above the outfeed table close to the cutter, correct?
    Thanks, Zac

Yes for long timber which is what I use it for.

The manual for the power feed says to put one roller on the infeed side for short pieces but that just sounds dangerous to me.
    Cheers from Micheal.
