    Default wadkin wonderland

    I completed my last rebuild 6 months ago and have spent along time making my workshop into a useable place. I haven't done any proper woodwork for 5 years. The amount of nasty dust from doing machines was unreal. Every surface was covered. I even had to go through my timber rack and sweep each bit.
    I've removed loads of spares and items I've accumulated whilst doing machines and took over the wendy house. I got the wadkin flooring sanded and a finish put on. I used 15lts of ronseal floor seal.
    I had one of my pictures enlarged to cover a wall.

    Looks amazing Mark . And a lot of work too.

    Where did that sign hang at the Factory ? Ive seen it before in some picture that I no longer have . Was there just the one sign like that ?

    Looks very good, I like the use of black & white pictures it adds a sense of nostalgia and the enlarged factory picture on the back wall is a nice back drop.

    Do you have any MF parts in your spare part pile that you are looking to sell?

    Rob the sign was on some big wooden doors that lead onto the rear entrance to the factory, its visible on a few old pictures.

    Charlie yes I think I might actually do some woodwork, my last proper work was 5 years ago. I have no more excuses to the wife that I need a machine to do what she wants.

    camelot, the only mf part I have is the casting for the chain grinder but its missing lots of bits.

    Some really cool photos there wallace.

    And some really cool machines:
    - the huge RU woodlathe;
    - the rare DH 24" bandsaw;
    - the rare LP boring and recessing machine; and
    - the early (11th made) PK dimension saw;
    are my favourites.

    I'll bet you've forgotten which end of a chisel is the sharp end, after 5 years off the workbench .

    Nice.

    Interesting the fence for the DH is made to be outside the blade.
    The DR fence is an inside design.

    It's good that it has it's original fence a lot don't, the holes in the bed for fixing the fence are either side of the blade so maybe there is a way of fixing the fence the other side of the blade.

    Edit:

    After having a look on the Canadian site where Wallace1973 documented the restoration, I found that he originally restored the fence in the pic attached which he already had (so the DH may have been missing it's fence) this fence sits on the left hand side of the blade and is a slightly different design than the one which is now fitted to the DH

    Could there have been a left and right fence option ? They both have holes left and right side of the table .

    The fences are like the proverbial rocking horse ?!
    Ive only seen two in 40 plus years of Wadkinitus.
    One on a 30” DR I picked up at a Patternshop Sale here in Sydney which I moved on as I had a 36” Barker.
    The other which I still have access to is on the 36” DR in the modelshop at the Uni I worked at.
    I’ll look at it more closely next time I’m in there as it has holes both sides of the blade, so the fence may be ambidextrous.

    Here's the DH I know of in New Zealand (DH 163). Provision for fence to the right of the blade only.

    That left one now resides in Oz. I've only ever found 3 of these fences. If your looking for a fence then have a look at LS routers. They were often sold with a fence that is used to align a cutter jig for sharpening. These fences work well on bandsaws, they were often cast in bronze also. I had one but sold it, wish I'd kept it now.
