Not sure if I will make it tomorrow.
I have an appointment on either side of the Zoom meeting and now that restrictions are lifted the traffic has been horrendous. TIme might be in short supply.
I will see you if I see you

I’m fairly certain I will be in for tomorrow’s Zoom meeting, coming from a clients yard lol, or the work office.
Cheers Matt.

I agree, but not everybody sees time off for prattling the same way as you and I.
Regards
Paul
PS: Doug wants some pictures of me working so here you are.

Actually I am a little hard to see in this pic as I had just gone for "smoko."

Thanks BobL, appreciated the tour.
I know you have likely answered this elsewhere and we had run out of time but i was curious why the high use of 3ph motors and vfds. Obvious for some things.
Cheers
Phil

DC, Drill press, lathes and mill are obvious - ie speed control but also soft start, fast stop, vibe control.
For big belt sander, I got the belt sander for nothing but it had a, built in, double ended shaft, 415V 3phase motor so had to convert the motor as there was no ay of swapping it for an SP motor. I found having variable speed really useful.
I use the Zirconia oxide belts on metal so for that a faster speed is better, it works for wood to but is more likely to burn it.
so ~3000 rpm for metal and half that for wood.
It also help for things like swapping belts - I run the belt real slowing to adjust the tracking - saves running the belt edge into the motor.
Also happy to hold small work pieces on the belt with my hands and work at slow speed eg 500 rpm
For the Bandsaw adding the foot brake lost the slow speed pulley so the VFD recovered this.
It also means can run at even slower speed to cut Al without any galling.
Can also run large ripping blades at 4000 fpm like the resaving machines - it really helps, blades get ho so intermittent use only. The Bandsaw mill I use uses 5000 fpm but hit has water cooling of blade.
