For those members who did not attendthe GTG at Box Hill last night, the topic of conversation was " the misuse of the mobile phone". A heated discussion continued for 15 minutes at which time the chair accepted a motion "That in fairness to the image of the mobile phone as a valuable communications technology, its misuse as a camera could no longer be tolerated". On the casting vote of the chair, the motion was carried unanimously .

I knew I shouldn't have missed that meeting.... My vote could have stayed the whole conversation - if not to the positive, at least to a hung vote. Given the interest in the topic and current state of general affairs, should a plebiscite be held to gauge the wider community opinion - then that can be ignored and the original decision that was unanimously voted on last night can be upheld?

Not necessarily. Your vote in the negative would have been countered by chairs personal vote, creating a hung vote in which case chairs casting vote would have resulted in the motion being carried. As for a plebiscite,I would only support that call if ovly menmbers over the age of 70 were permitted to vote.
There is an old adage that goes like "Never ask a question to which you do not know the answer". Allowing the trendy young whipper-snippers a vote could well cast the result in doubt - the chairs decision is that all members have had adequate opportunity to vote on the matter - so the decision of the last meeting shall stand and no amendments can be lodged during the remainder of the term of the chair.

Have all citizenship matters been resolved by those voting?

After reading that lot I am pleased I did not go.
But a point of order- you did not have quorum so there was no authority to open the meeting or elect a chairperson let alone propose a motion. Therefore in accordance with the constitution the meeting lapses for a period of seven days when it is to be reconvened at the same time and place. If a quorum is not present at that time all business lapses.I'm doing my May Challenge - I may or may not give a #*c&

Bob,
I would be very interested in reviewing the minutes from said meeting before making comment.
Also were said minutes done under obersvation or in secrecy.
Was Sally involved I have my doubts with that one I've seen and witnessed the company she keeps her self endowed with.
Cheers matt

If these minutes were taken as per previous meetings then I would suggest the napkin used to record them on would have been used to dab the corners of 'chairs' mouth as he finished his caviar entree and move into the lobster main (at the company's expense of course)
