    Matt

All the best for the meeting. I have to work

Years ago I bought a pen turning kit, but have never used it. I would have to buy a set of lathe jaws small enough to grip the blanks before I became operational! I am thinking your "professional" may live very close by?

    Pau,
You don’t need a chuck or jaws to turn a pen,Sally turns a lot between centre’s.

You may be right about the “Professional”

    My sympathies regarding work [emoji45][emoji45]

    Matt

I think I saw a saw there. I have something to convey on saw sharpening tonight: A minor break through for the visually challenged. Tune in and all will be revealed.

This is the link to the Covid thread I mentioned in "The Prattle" tonight.

    breaking covid rules - Page 9 (woodworkforums.com)

It started out as "breaking the rules" but has developed, nine pages later, into a general discussion, usually very restrained. The last post, # 131 contains the description of how serious coivid-19 can be and elaborates on the "four stages:" Disturbing to say the least.

I will post some headband magnifier details tomorrow. Running out of time tonight.

For some time the Optivisor headband magnifier made by Donegan has been the device that all others were judged by. The optics from the glass lenses are excellent, but it is on the expensive side. A quick glance on Ebay shows prices down around the $100 mark.

I saw through Cesdeals a similar item with multiple lenses for just over $40 and that is the headband I showed last night. The four levels of magnification are x1.5, x2.0, x2.5, x3.5.

Head Wearing Magnifier Glasses Loupes Portable Magnifying Headband Eyewear (cesdeals.com)

Another quick glance at Ebay shows what I think is the same item down as low as $22.50 !

I just selected the first that came up and it includes free postage:

Headband Magnifier Head Wearing Jeweler Reading Magnifying Glass Loupe Optivisor | eBay

This is the general search for headband magnifier:

    headband magnifier | eBay

There is a practical limitation to how much magnification you can comfortably use to sharpen handsaws. As the magnification increases the focus range decreases and you find yourself on top of the blade with no room to move the saw file comfortably. My take is that x1.5 or x2.0 are the practical lenses, but I do use them in conjunction with my reading glasses too so there is small level of extra magnification.

So although I bought through Cesdeals, which was less than half the price of the Optivisor brand, it appears that through Ebay you can get these similar (knockoffs?) bands for around a quarter of the price and get the additional lenses. Probably worth a try if you are battling to see small teeth or indeed any other intricate work.
