See you all in a couple of days. I’ll need a bit of freshening up since I haven’t done much (any) turning since mid December, which is my own fault...
All packed, ready to go. It is a long way, I will start my walk about 6.30am, be interesting to see how far I get tomorrow.
Safe travelling to all attendees,
Alan...
I made up one of the mallet kits I am putting together for the kids to assemble just to be able to show what they can make.

Sorry Dave, looks like I'll be a no show. I have a damn chest of drawers to build as soon as humanly possible. I was hoping to have started it last weekend, but that didn't happen and now it is Wednesday arvo and I still haven't even sketched a design. So I'll spend the long weekend roasting inside my garage working for nothing instead of having fun :(
I have three more kits for the kids to make up the same size as this one, Its about a 3/4 sized jointers mallet - scaled with the smaller woodworker in mind.
The head is from an old redgum fence-post so it is heavy and solid, but I have not got a "smashing rating" for it.
I used the one inthe photo to mortise out the other three heads. It feels really nice in the hand.
I was going to just drill the mortises and let the kids do the chiseling but that redgum is not very forgiving, so I fitted the handles and the kids can do all the shaping. This way I might avoid a difficult conversation with a parent on why their child has a chisel protruding from their forearm.
We’re at a cabin in halls gap. Looking forward to tomorrow!
If anyone has a pen press and will be here Friday it would come in handy. Mine is still out on loan.
Thanks
