Two-sided latch for timber gate

I'm replacing my parents' timber gate which has fallen apart (after nearly 40 years' service, so not bad). I'm going to replace it with a gate made out of blackbutt, but I'm struggling to find a latch that can be operated from both sides of the gate.

The old gate had a dead simple padbolt on it, and a hole cut in the gate so you could reach through and unlock it from the front. I think that's a bit inconvenient, and I don't want to cut a hole in the screening on the gate I've got planned.

The D&D lokklatches are everywhere, and look nice, but it's an outswinging gate so it'd have the larger, uglier side facing out.

What I'm keen on is the idea of something like a sliding bolt that has a passthrough to the front side - a bit like this one on Etsy (however that one doesn't ship to Australia and is nearly $200, which is more than I'm spending on wood).

Has anyone dealt with something similar like this, or have any good suggestions? There's only so much more of my life I can spend googling gate latch options.

Hi B. How tall is gate going to be? If not too high, could you install a pad bolt on top of frame/capping that could slide horizontally into a keeper (or even a hole in the gate post)? This would be accessible from both sides. Hard to lock maybe. The d-latch is easy to buy and often comes with a wire handle that pokes through to the other side, giving access from both sides. And this can be locked from the inside

piece of 3 or 4 mm wire hooked through a hole drilled in the latch and up to top of gate through a screw eye at the top with a finger loop at top of wire

I’ve made a few double sided throw bolts before, just cut a slot through the picket for the outside handle to screw into the sliding bolt on the other side. I made a pivoting self locking one too, just needs the slot up and down, pretty simple.

I’ve used these on a few gates, clients feed back has always been positive.

There fairly easy to to install too.
Lockable from sides.
