Fantastic. Now Double Trouble are making these joints with no trouble at all, I assume. [emoji6]

Absolutely no trouble at all. Here's a pic of the two shavings coming out of the side of the tongue plane.

It took a bit of inventiveness and trial and error to achieve this kind of result repeatedly.

Double trouble are now on the Judging Table.

Looking back on this build thread, it was interesting to see how the challenge developed and the direction(s) it took to get to the finish line.Much of the first four pages of the thread weren't really that much about plane making, but here we are at the end with a matched pair that I am proud to have completed.

I still have quite a few pictures that I have not posted here or in the judging thread that I will try to find time to post here in the coming days. Or I might just concentrate on cleaning up all the shavings and mess from the trial and error of sorting out the escapements.

Here is a couple of pictures I would have liked to have included in the judging thread but with the 10 picture limit it didn't make the cut.
It is the shaping of the end of the wedge in the tongue plane to make the escapement work.

It's a bit hard to see in the pictures because it is sort of hidden in the colours of the timber but it is basically dividing the end of the wedge into two separate ramps so each shaving comes out at a different height. This is probably not a new technique but I have never seen it done before.

I learned quite a lot throughout the challenge while pushing back some boundaries regarding techniques for precision and accuracy in steel and timber, particularly hard timber. I have always enjoyed working with hard timber. It has it's challenges but the challenges are outweighed by the rewards in the finished product.

Good luck to all those who took part in the challenge and thanks to all those who offered advice and suggestions to me along the way. I am sure that the total of plane-making knowledge and skills of the forum as a whole are now much richer than they were nine months ago and it is all recorded for future reference. Everyone who took part, finished or not, can be proud of their achievements. There are some fantastic builds already on the judges table. May the best entry win.
