A little more progress today. Throat almost finished (a checkout will be needed for the chip breaker screw). Chiselled, rasped, filed and scraped. Bed pretty true (50°) and depth adjuster sawn and dressed to size (and left in the throat, hope I can remove it when I'm next working on it)

I always love watching when a plane bed and throat is chiseled straight out of a blank. Something on my list to try as well one day.
I think this reminds me a bit of the chamfer plane Stavros Gakos made in one of his amazing videos.

Hi Matt and CK. Sorry for the orientation of the photo, I don't know why they do this. It would make more sense if the image was rotated 90° clockwise. Guilty as charged your honour. I am following Mr Garkos' video pretty closely, (this plane is a bit more complex than usual). Well spotted I must also confess to having a small man crush on him.

No comment regarding man crushes.
Cheers Matt.

Hi Phil. If only you knew how badly technology and I get on...... but you did make me laugh because I was going to make the same joke about Matt's "fixing" of my photo.
Thanks CK lets see Stavros do that!

More got done today. Needing something for a wear plate on the bottom of the depth adjuster, I started hunting through my bits and bobs. Due to a previous life building period feature fences, I have a small collection of letterbox flaps.....made of brass. After much measuring, cutting, filing and trial fitting I have the brass fitted. Things feel like they are going slowly but I guess that's the reality of building something new (how quickly we forget). Photos below

Speaking of forgetting, planing the end grain on either end of the depth stop was a lot of fun, really. My 4 1/2 seemed to find its sweet spot. Maybe it was the recent sharpen or refining the chip breaker/blade contact or judicious use of my "Paul Sellers oil rag in a can". Whatever it came together nicely and it's funny how tools can come into favour. Anyway here's where I'm up to.
Could be time for a new bench hook, seeing as how it keeps appearing in my photos.

Thanks DJ but I have a Samsung. Hi Matt I'm glad I'm keeping you on your toes. A little more work was done this morning, brass filings everywhere.
