That is still a good pace. Looks good.
I also hade a few mishits on my scrub plane. I took a small piece of 80 grit and spot sanded where the dint were and then some finer grits. That reduced that significantly.
What wood are you thinking for the infill?

This really is the fastest I've worked on a project since i helped make a baby.
Progress last couple of days.
Decided to use some Rosewood for the infill.

The idea was to try incorporate a bit of sap into it, that didn't work.
The timber work has been one of the more difficult tasks so far. Trying to get that front infill to line up and fill in all the gaps was very fiddly. Mainly due to the bridge piece being at a random angle. I now realise I should have tried to get it perpendicular to the base at the front edge. So at the close of last night the top edges of the brass were sanded(should have gone higher) and front infill glued in. Cleaned up the mouth opening. And I had to try it out. It cut, but not very well, only cutting on one side.
Need to spend more time flattening and squaring up the sides and sole.
Getting frustrated, time for a beer.

Back out this morning and flattened the sides with some 120 on glass and got the sole flat and as square as I can get it.
Thought before trying it out again I should give the blade a once over so flattened the back and sharpened it up.
HOLY CRAP! IT Works!

I am quite gobsmaked. It still needs a lot of cleaning up and the blade doesn't seem to sit perfectly straight, but it was a full width shaving and consistent thickness. I really am amazed.
cheers

Yeah Yeah I know I've been slack. But the plane is finished and has been given to its new owner. After all was only a prototype and the plan was to make more for myself. Unfortunately I have only gotten as far as seen below with the next 2, no where near as quick as the first one but am really taking my time to get everything bang on square. My finished one works fine and can be set to take a nice full width even shaving but I'm pretty sure the blade bed is not exactly as square as it should be because I have to slightly angle the blade to get an even shaving.

IMG_2627.jpgThe start of take 2 on the 1inch shoulder plane and 3/4 inch. Still have a 1 1/4 inch blade but don't have the brass for that yet.
To be continued...
