Ive got enough bits for about 6 planes I think. If I can get 1 finished in time i'll be a happy camper.

Which will you do; a laminated shoulder plane or an infill smoother with a Norris adjuster? Or is there something else lurking there that I missed?

Progress!
To answer a few questions.
I'm starting with a laminated shoulder plane 1". I do plan on making another 4 shoulder planes and have the blades and china brass for 2 little smoothers.

So i stated to get a bit carried away and kept forgetting to take photos.

A few firsts. Cutting brass with a coping saw. Started with a couple of practice cuts and first thought was ' you've got to be kidding' this is hopeless. Then realised I had the 2/0 blade still in there. Changed over to the #8. No bloody better. Hmmm. Turns out it was just crappy technique. Although in the end I found it better to cut with the #2/0 blade than the #8. Maybe my #8's are just crap. I have ordered some #4and #6 Glardon blades and will see how they go.

Once I found my rhythm the cutting went fairly fast for the 2 sides. Clamped them together and cleaned up to the lines with a mixture of sanding drum on Dremel and files.

Cutting the 3/4 inch core pieces wasn't so bad either. Tried both hacksaw and grinder, grinder easier on the arms but not much quicker. What was a bugger was removing the little roundover and getting the corners square.

So was time to tack them together with solder, another first since school last century. Done a couple of practice runs on some offcuts then nervously onto the plane, and finally remembered to take a photo. Bit messy but seems to have done the job.

Marked out and drill the holes for the rivets. And 2 little test rivets in some scrap.

Then time to get peening. Found a block of steel and went at it.

And done. Now its just a matter of time to see how it went.

Ok not much time. I had to sand them back and see. Not bad for a first crack. Does seem to be a few wayward strikes, I'm pretty sure the rivets kept moving when I was trying to hit them.

I just hope the rivets a set deep enough that they don't fall out when I smooth out the sides to get rid of those dents.
��Or maybe I could just add more and call them speed dents like on a golf ball.

I guess now I have to find some nice wood to infill with. Now this is where the serious procrastination will start.

Great progress! Maybe you could make those little dents larger and call them strategically placed depressions to improve grip.
