Matt, it all looks ok to me as you've got it set up. You need very little clearance to slip a single-iron blade in & out. The acid test will be when you get the blade in & tighten the lever cap - that will show you how accurate your slot is & if it aligns with the blade bed. You may need to trim the end of the LC where it meets the blade to get it to sit squarely all the way across. I think the "loose" pivot arrangement you & Brad have gone with will be self-adjusting to a limited degree, and the business end should be able to snug up nicely even if the slot in the LC isn't perfect. (You could claim it's the reason you did all that extra work. ) With an axle pivot, or the machine screws like I like to use, the LC can't twist more than a teeny fraction as you tighten it down, & I have nearly always had to do a little finessing of the end of the LC to get it to sit perfectly flat on the blade or cap-iron.
It looks like you have plenty of clearance behind the end of the LC, so that just the tip will be sitting on the blade. It's especially important to get a tight fit on a single-iron job because the LC takes the place of a cap-iron to some extent. If there are any gaps shavings will get under it & may start a shavings buildup & cause choking. I check with a 1 thou feeler gauge to make sure there's no gaps...
Cheers,IW

Today, work wise was a little slow, so this afternoon I spend some time at a mates place on my side of town. Dale was kind enough to fire up is metal melting equipment, an heat treated the Body’s most vital organ, the Blade, now gently cooling after being tempered in the oven.
Hopefully soon to be sharpened to a razor edge.
Thanks Dale [emoji106][emoji106]
Cheers Matt.

Hi Matt, sounds like fun.
What temps did you use for hardening and tempering.
Pete.

Pete,
Unfortunately I or Dale don’t have any thing to measure temperature at that heat range.
The iron was taken up to non magnetic an held there for about Ten minutes then quenched in oil.
The oil had been pre heated by heating a piece of scrap metal to Red hot and leaving that in the oil tank(About 10 litres).
But I’m super new too all this,Heat treading stuff[emoji6].
Cheers Matt.

I really like how your plane doubles as drill bit storage too.
Extra points perhaps?
Pete.
