Cubism Competition 2022 - shanesmith80
"What the HELL is with all you other slackers, come on get with it.[emoji2959][emoji2959][emoji2959][emoji2959][emoji2959][emoji2959].
MATT."
OK OK
Hint taken.
Daughter has been talking about a particular sought of box so thought I'd give that a go.
Have a Blackwood board thats been laying around for a few years.
IMG_2854.jpg
Chopped and milled it up. Bit long at the moment, will have to chop it up some more to make it fit the 500 x500.
IMG_2897.jpgIMG_2899.jpg
Got some veneer thats been laying around for a while too. Some of its flat, some not so much.
IMG_2856.jpg
But after spraying it with some flattening solution and pressing it for a week came out nice and flat. Forgot to take any photo's off that. Popped it into the new vacuum bag and glued it down to some MDF(does that count as wood?). Came out ok.
What to put on the other side?
cheers
Shane

It’s looking good Shane; are you going to tell us what the box will be for or are we to be left in suspense until we figure it out ourselves with new clues added periodically?
I’m intending to use splines on my mitre joints (got some lovely ebony!), how did you cut yours; by hand or on the table saw?Nothing succeeds like a budgie without a beak.

I'll hold off on the inside, though some of the next steps might help give it away.
Cut the splines on the table saw then I have a 2mm chisel which I used to clean up and get flat bottoms.

Shane,
You might possibly get an extra 0.001 point for a tidy workshop, possibly??.
Cheers Matt.[emoji6]

I've been trying to work out what sort of box E would like. I think I know.
Box is looking awesome. Fantastic veneer.

Feel free to have a guess.

You could say I turned these but was more like forced in to shape with 80 grit sandpaper. These will be incorporated in some way?
Also I though I would try mount my bench to the wall and work of it side ways for a while.)

Does it have anything to do with jewellery?
The side ways bench means the dust and shavings fall straight to the floor. Good idea

Shot in the dark here… is it a box containing a game; backgammon, checkers or similar?
