Anyone in Geelong or Melb area interested in seeing if we can share transport costs to get some Huon over the water? Bob is going to have a look at the timber this afternoon.

    Hi Rob,
Huon Pine is not quarter sawn for boat building but furniture grade timber.
    also great for wood turners.
    Slabs 500mm wide 40mm thick.
And billets 250mm wide 300mm wide and 75 and 100mm thick.
    Cheers Robert.

    Thanks Robert,
slab sawn timber is fine in many situations; it can also be resawn to orient the grain whichever way. Quality and affordability are the things that would matter more!

    Default Huon Pine

G'Day Shane, I ship timber to Germany, England, U.S.A. And other places.
So W.A. is no big deal just try and get a few others interested and share shipping costs.
Now to anyone interested Huon pine is the same price as sold at the Huon Pine sawmill on the west coast of Tasmanian for Boards $15.00 per Super foot.
For the young guys out there super foot is 300mm by 300mm by 25mm thick.
So a piece of timber 1 metre long by 150mm wide by 25mm thick.
Works out at.2.1666666 board foot price $32.50.
    Cheers Bob.

Bell's transport shipped 20 planks of Huon Pine (20 ft approx.) recently, give them a call on 0362299099; friendly and much cheaper than the bigger companies, ps. the timber arrived in good nick ( Hobart to nth/est Vic)

If this is Bells Transport located in Queenstown (where the mill also is then you won't find a nicer guy than Peter who owns it. He use to ship anything from the north coast of Tassi down to me in Queenstown while I lived there and even gave me a ride up to the coast in the truck to pick up a car once. Very obliging guy with an equally lovley wife (use to clean my house).

Default Anyone in Sydney interested in sharing some?

    Hi,

I would be interested in some for turning - and pens of course.

Is anyone in Sydney interested in getting some at the same time?
    Regards

    Brendan

I'm not sure of Bell's history, but they're now on the outskirts of Hobart town.By the way here's a bit of trivia for you boat builders, the bloke I purchased the Huon Pine from refused to sell his timber to furniture makers and the like, his preference was boat builders and folk interested in restoring old beauties. So there.
