    Default Bronze drain plug

I would like to put a bronze drain plug (or 'bung') into the wooden Swallow I am refitting, subject of a separate thread:

    https://www.woodworkforums.com/f32/19...project-96932/

The type I know, from my classic yacht, has a face plate on the outside of the hull with a flange/collar attached which protrudes through the planking; this is threaded so a face plate can be screwed on inside the hull, and a bung can be screwed into the internal thread. The bung is removed when the boat is out of the water, from the outside of the hull, via either a slotted head screwdriver or a two-prong spanner (I have seen both).

Does anyone know where I can find this beast?

It could vary. Although it is not my preference, it could be removed from inside the hull. It could also be made of another (non-rusting) metal.

    Garboard thickness is 1/2".

    All help appreciated. Thanks

    Thanks Wolf,

Was that a stock item from Briggs, or custom made?

    Cheers

    Hi Wolf,

The Briggs plug is a filler plug intended for decks. I asked Briggs if it could be used below the waterline; they didn't bother to reply. Many thanks for your helpful suggestion; I decided I had better keep looking.

I found several examples of a type of drain plug which operates from inside the boat - Perko, Seasense, Sea Dog - at sites in USA and UK, then found the brass garboard drain plug found on this web page:

    EJ Milde | Marine Supplies

This importer E J Milde is in Adelaide; they have arranged for one of their customers to send me one. Very helpful people.

    Cheers

You sure you looked at the right item, they have deck fillers and what I posted labelled as a drain plug. I also have a deck filler for my fuel tank, much larger diameter.
