The hatch and the thingowatsit are a bit more advanced than the boat now, because foul windy wet weather has prevented me from getting paint on the big bits. The hatch is shown here with the first coat of Norglass Weatherfast Marine Enamel. It's great stuff, and beautiful to apply, and the horrible truth is that a less than perfect result will be totally my fault...

what a fantastic finish on the deck hatch Rob, you're going to go blind looking at the boat in the sun if it all comes out like that

Plenty of time for me to mess it up yet, but your point is useful, in that a shiny deck will provide the perfect excuse to sail really badly: 'Oh look Rob's got his mainsail upside down again'- 'He can't help that, he can't see a thing' etc.

But Richard the truth is- and I hope you won't mention this to anyone, it's top secret, but I've been engaged by the Navy of a leading Mediterranean power to research getting a perfect underarm tan for it's sailors, so they look elegant in all uniforms from all angles. The shiny deck is my secret armpit tanner. Shhh. not a word to Daddles

Well, I tried the biggest nozzle, but I still couldn't squeeze the roller through it Anyway Mike, you should be in the workshop getting on with Coquina. Might have to send Mik around with a stick to keep you at it!

You are correct I should be but take pity it's hailing outside. I did get stuck into the strongback today so I'll update the thread soon.....well when there is something to show.

I don't know if this level of detail is of any interest, but these are of the first coat of Weatherfast Marine enamel. I've written elsewhere about how good this stuff is, but there are still areas of frustrating rough texture, but these are down to my un-practised hand, working with several wet edges at a time. Some areas have worked really well however, and I hesitate to give them more coatings because of what I'll do to it! Wet and dry is lovely stuff, and this paint can be abraded the day after without ruining the paper. Weather has been nasty and very windy, and the boat is exposed a bit, so I can't expect a miracle finish.
The aft (transom/traveller) beam is finally screwed and epoxied in place. The traveller will slide on an 'I' beam screwed to the top. We think we'll start with the sheet coming from there, but are prepared to take it up to the boom, along and to middle cockpit floor if it doesn't feel right. Want to keep the cockpit floor as uncluttered as possible, but will negotiate...
The bottom shot is of the foam for the berths, rough cut and almost ready for covering. There should be a gap between the bottom cushions, for the CB, but was pushed for space. It wasn't till I tried to set up on the floor indoors that I realized how big this thing is...Our bed is only a couple of inches longer. The two inner cushions at the bottom of the pic become back rests for day use, giving a bit of leg room to the sitter.

Yes, you are right. The centre limber hole for the bottom washboard channel is off-centre. She dresses to the right.

Good on you Richard, you always focus on the progress, not the problems. I appreciate that!

Crisp is the word that comes to mind all the intersecting joints, the faired panels in fact it all looks terrific.

Think I'm sold on that paint but I also think the preparation and application may have a fair bit to do with the lovely finish.

Thanks Mike. That little comment was there all along. Truth is I confessed to enable me to make the joke. My humour is a little weird, I know.

You don't need a pic for this one.
Sometimes the little stuff is the best stuff of all. Just dried the dishes with my 24 yr old son, while enjoying a bit of Jimmy Hendrix (I really love that he loves the music I loved when I was his age), after a great meal with a few beers, after a whole afternoon with him in the shed doing boat stuff- him on the rudder blade and me (still) on the wet and dry. It was for this that I got into boat-building now, after a life-time of having too much else to do.
He's the one that is often too busy now, so moments really matter.

(ok, it helps that he also stacked 2 cubic metres of firewood for me too)

Ah Woodstock 1969, prompted me to play Santana Soul Sacrifice.

Come to think of it 69 was a vintage year in more ways than one. I find it interesting my kids are totally disinterested in the moon landing as if.... so what. Guess it's the ancient technology and black and white video.

Anyway I digress yep know exactly what you are saying and it's nice when there is quiet understanding with the offspring.
