    Default Old Epoxy

I thought there was a thread about the shelf life of epoxy but I couldn't find it. Thought you might be interested in some epoxy I bought at a garage sale a couple of years ago for a dollar.
Resiweld - made by Ful-O-Mite in NSW. 2 small tins in a cardboard box - a "HALF PINT KIT".
So I'm guessing that says something about it's age. I used a bit on the weekend for a non structural job. Both parts are perfectly liquid. It mixed well, hardened overnight and is only slightly opaque/yellow.
    When did we go metric?

It was staggered through the 1970's.

A rather remarkable shelf life for that epoxy.

If left unopened, epoxy will last a long time. I've used epoxy that was several years old with no curing issues, though I didn't test physical properties afterward.

Previously opened epoxy will usually react with oxygen and things don't last as long. Hardener (depending on formulation and resin type) will usually gain color and eventually lose it's ability to fully cross link during the chemical reaction.

For the most part old epoxy should be fine for none heavily loaded situations, though be warned that relying on it for a structural application is a risk. How much, I wouldn't guess, but I don't trust a goo that's been open for more then a year in these situations.
