I got HS out today.
My arms were aching , and now my shoulders were too.
Not much wind , but intermittent showers.
Anyway , the setting up of the tender and the trip out was easy enough , and setting up HS .
Going out , I got a bit off with a couple of knuckleheads in a couple of pieces of frozen snot , they kept weaving across and back in front of me.
Then I thought stuff it , if I run over them its their problem.
That was about the time I caught the first fish for the afternoon.
The pain in my arms went away then it seemed , although my hands were complaining , I use a hand line .
But I was back to the old tillering with my feet trick , and trolling up plenty.
Mainly 'couta , nothing of a size worth worrying about , but also some nice perch.
HS was easy , really well behaved as per usual , and my picking up of the swing mooring was the best ever.
Then time to clean fish , a little bit of housework , and home again.
That was a good afternoon !.

I have just found some photos , that are of interest.
The original engine cover was bloody terrible , it took up too much room , and you had to lift it to change gear !.
Much better now.

Leckie and I took out HS today , what a glorious day for sailing !.
About 15-20 knots of steady (cold ) breeze from the south , and a 2 metre swell.
HS gave us a beautiful afternoon of fishing under sail .
I even caught a thresher shark , but it destroyed the line , broke the swivel at the paravane.
I also got the gaff up myself , with the aid of the cleats .
And we had lots of other boats come over and compliment HS.
She is a great little boat !.

Most of the afternoon we were on long tacks , but working our way south .
HS handled the swell well , whether it was front on , or on the angle , just bobbed right along , little water coming over the top .
But coming home , running home goosewinged , with the wind and swell , she just surfed along majestically , beautiful !.

Well , I took HS out today , on my own , trolling under sail.
I had a bit of trouble getting the mainsail up and the peak just right , but I got it eventually.
But my wrists and arms were screaming , and stayed that way for hours.
But I trolled the town reef , then worked down to the Minerva reef.
I got heaps of 'couta and half a dozen pike , that I gave to a mate later.
I lost interest about then , my arms were really hurting .
But I had thought ahead , and I knew from the Minerva reef I had a straight sail home.
So , thats what I did.
I could see the water tower , and guessed from there were the end of the breakwater was.
So , I let HS sail herself home .
I let the tiller go and used my body position in the cockpit to sail her straight home.
That felt good , and looked good to me too.
I took care dropping the gaff , it didn't jam , and the rest was easy enough.
I'd like to go out again , but hopefully with a mate , and save the pain.

I took an old timer out fishing on HS today.
He was pretty wobbly , and with the slop out in the bay I didn't put up the main for a while, just the jib and staysail .
We caught plenty , he had a good time , and that is all that matters really.
Next time , if we have better conditions I'll put all sail up early.

Better still , the look on the old boys face , when he lifts up 2 bags of fish , to take home !.
I've taken out the camera before , but its impossible on your own , hauling in fish , tillering with your feet , and taking photos too !.
Normally its a picture of an upturned paravane , 200 yds from my mooring.
I'll try to do better though.

Photos of fish, on the deck, are quite acceptable Rob.
No need for "action" shots.

"Off the Deck". !!
Oh, now I get it, you don't want a "real" fishing" boat.
O.K. An Esky shot will be good enough.

Yes Paul , I'd like a real fishing boat .
But to have fish on the deck on HS would mean being out of the cockpit.
This boat is great for sailing , but not much for fishing.
I'll post a few photos I took last time I took the camera out , starting from my mooring.
Pretty boring stuff really , and I caught 40+ fish that day .Have a look at the last photo , would you like to be fishing from that deck , in big seas ?.
I'd love a real fishing boat yes , and hand HS over to someone who wants a great sail boat.

I see your pont Rob.
Not a lot of deck on your boat.
Lets hope you can find something more suited to fishing, in the New Year.

There isn't much deck Paul , and its often sloping , and bucking , with nothing to hold you in.
Yesterday I really wanted to sort out the staysail roller , but in those seas I thought I'd better not , I could finish up in the drink.
How about this little boat , you reckon you could do some good fishing off her ? . [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mq_rqh5WXSc]Bültjer kotter_Exterior - YouTube[/ame] . [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Co7PlurbtQ]Bültjer kotter_Interior - YouTube[/ame] .
If I could shink it , it would be a great boat !.
