    Thanks MIK.
She is a beautiful boat to sail , my experience so far is that she is very capable in pretty tough conditions , and I just love being on her.
My shed isn't even started yet , so I've not had a chance to look at my PDR , but I'm looking forward to spending my nights out in the shed , working on boats.
And every opportunity out on the water with HS , exploring the coast , fishing under sail .
This new phase in my life has had a spluttering start , but its starting to smooth out now a bit , although its also got busy.
I wanted to learn marine radio procedures , and it seemed the easiest and quickest way was with the Coast Guard.
So , now I'm a member of CG 17 based at Portland , I've got my radio operators licence , and now I'm training with the CFA for structural fires (boats).
    Its interesting , I'd recommend it !.

    Thanks Greg.
I'm hoping Garry will be finished working on the slipway this week , and we can get to finish off HS.
I feel very confident she will do very well , back in the water , and be a lot easier to operate , especially under power.

I'm really looking forward to that day too Rufus.
Tonight , driving home around the harbour , it was very still , misty , and I said to my wife I'd love to be out there drifting about , fishing.
It will happen , the sooner , the better.
Here is a photo of me at the helm , on a pretty quiet winters day , in Portland.

[QUOTE=rob540;1066534]One of the things I like about this particular forum is that it seems to be more about sharing interests than flexing muscles or peeing on lamp posts.

Had to laugh about this post and I couldn't agree more. Actually, I think that there are some other US based forums with similar problems, particularly the Yahoo forums for backyard boatbuilders of various designers.

Huon Seal seems to be a very classy boat and the engine installation seems infinitely superior to the older one. Great job.

I'm only interested in sharing boat related subjects , nothing else.
Greg and Rufus have been very supportive of me , with my forey in to yacht ownership.
HS is a very nice boat , just spoilt by the engine/engine box setup it had.
I decided to get professional help , there are a few people I would have gone to , but I decided to go to Garry Stewart , because he had very good recommendations after a lifetime building wooden boats , and he was local , I hoped to get involved somewhat.
It has turned out to be one of my smarter decisions , HS has been really transformed , and I have learnt a lot.
And I still have a lot to learn , but I believe I've got one hell of a platform to do it on.
Mainly just the fiddly bits to go now , electronics and such.
Here is a photo of HS with its previous owner.
    Regards Rob J.

I should get some photos tomorrow Rufus.
We are having trouble with the Simrad auto tiller.
It came with no documentation .
When I queried that , we were send a book via the internet , for us to copy.
When it came to installation , we found there is no wiring diagram.
Its just not good enough , for the price we paid.
But the radio , chartplotter and engine instrumentation are all installed , and the "at anchor" light.
Tomorrow HS needs to get dragged out of the shed , to be replaced by another boat .
All I have to do is a bit more painting , and sort out the electrics ,and she comes home again.
    Regards Rob J.

Still no joy from Simrad , but one of the blokes from Coastguard reckons he would be able to install it ok , so thats looking good.
Just need the engine electrics hooked up , and the antifouling done.
If its not raining tomorrow , hopefully I'll be able to get that done.
    Regards Rob J.

    G/Day Ian !.
    Thanks for the photos.
For those that don't know , when I went to Sydney to look at HS I asked Ian , who I had "met" via the internet , to come for a sail too , and offer his opinion , which he did.
The weather wasn't much , but I did appreciate Ian making the effort to come in , and have a look at her.
And , looking at his photos , how could I pass her up ?.
I'd like to take you for another sail now Ian , I think you and your BIG frame would find it a lot easier.
    Thanks again Rob J.
