Hartley Vixen 17
G'day All,
My pride and joy is a Hartley Vixen 17 open runabout. I'm thinking of converting the old girl to a half cab. I'm currently at the design stage and it would be helpful if anyone has any thoughts on the subject, I want the cab to be in keeping with the classic look of the boat.
Thanks Ric

Ric
IMHO the Vixen 17 is one of the best looking craft ever designed and great at sea.
Currently have the frames etc prepared for construction, although will be stretching it to 18'. Sadly the project is on hold for a while for various reasons but it will happen.
Have opted to build the Scamp 15' next as a stop-gap hobby.
Have you checked the Hartley site for some pics? Might have a couple here from other Hartley owners I've picked up over the years..... If interested PM me and I will take a look to see if they are still on file.

You're not alone with things going out of 'wack' - I understand totally.
Just sent the daughter back to Tassie this morning after a Christmas visit..... I had hoped to pop down next month for the festival but the gremlins got in the way.... Daughter was sad she. But promised myself to be there in 2 yrs for the next one... So will continue to watch your progress and see the results then.... fingers crossed."May your dreams of today

I'm working on a Vixen too
I too have been workin on Hartley Vixen power boat (now for a couple of years) but am actually building from scratch. Have recently turned it over to comence work from above and am now going through the layout designs for it in an effort to maximise usable space.
I also have been looking at different designs for the half cabin and am considering a longer, more open cabin area with windows on each side and a hatch that will allow access to the front of the boat. To do this would require the reduction of some of the front deck area including the removal (or moving forward) of the rear deck frame and cutting of the king plank and deck bearers back to the first deck beam frame. Does anyone think that this would cause issues with the structural integrity of the boat? By the look of some of the boats in the photos on the Hartley site, it doesn't look like it will be a problem.
