Default i'll bet no one's asked this before

im about to get some concreting work done. the concreter wants to use 24-25 sheets of 19mm marine ply for formwork. most of these will be whole sheets. will they be ok to use for boatbuilding afterwards, and do i need to do anything to them before putting them into semi long term storage?

Actually, it' is a question I've fielded before. Usually plywood used in concrete building forms is heavily oiled, so the concrete doesn't stick. Quite often the concrete's weight tears up the panels pretty good too, breaking internal veneers, voids, etc.

If you let the panels dry, sand them with 100 grit until you get fresh, clean wood and they appear reasonably intact, you should be okay to use them later.

he would be better off using 17mm hardwood construction ply with the plastic face , .

I would not be happy with him using Marine ply as form work ply due to cost.

If the contractor is set to use marine ply , buy some black plastic and an electric staple gun, staple the plastic to the face of the ply .

I'm thinking that if 19mm marine ply is cheaper than formply and/or construction ply from a similar source, it can't be much good. Maybe marine ply in name only?
