CAn you help me identify this dinghy I just bought
I have been lurking this forum for some time and have decided to jump in.
Much to my wife's dismay I have just purchased a sailing dinghy and trailer on ebay. please see the link below. I am picking it up on the weekend. I am looking at the pictures and trying to guess what it is. Thought I'd ask those much more knowledgeable than me.
I am hoping it is a heron, but there are so many that look so similar
thanks
jeff

Please help me identify this dinghy, more picture
Ok, picked her up this afternoon. She is 3.63 m long and 1.35m at the beam. She has a center board and looks to my novice eye to have been gunter rigged.
I hope the pictures below tell the story, any ideas greatly appreciated

Boat id
From the heron dinghys that I have seen this does not look like it is one. The heron has a sealed bow area for boyancy. It also has a thwart across the boat and seats down both port and stbd sides.
Cheers

Hi Jeff,
Congratulations, I hope.
Looks like you have a bit of a challenge ahead of you. Check the wood in the bow sections hull bottom etc. for soft ply if it has been out in the weather long enough for the deck to delaminate you might have some other areas of concern.
As to its design, I'm not sure it does look like a Heron but the stem is a little more raked and the transom deeper than I recall. My brother in law found an old one and tidied it up several years ago a lot of fun for the kids.
I'd be careful about how much time and money you spend on it without sails it's a bit of an iffy project, might pay to keep looking.
Got yourself a cheap trailer anyway.
Cheers

Hey, It's not a heron, or at the very least not a stock-standard one It looks to be a little too long when comparing it with mine (though that could be as mine has a sealed rear and fore tank so it has a smallish cockpit).
If it is a Gunter rig of a similar size to a heron though, I have some spare (oldish) sails you can have for cheap that might fit the rig, if you can put up with the fact they're purple. There might be a need for a new hank or two on the jib also.
Have fun with it.

Old sails
Thanks Asrainox, definitely in the market for some old sails, and purple sounds fine. Yes it is too long for a heron 11'11' rather than 11'3'. But shape wise it is as close as i can get. The old sails were rotted but there was a small 6602 on the mainsail and Henricks sails of Balmain on the jib.
Thanks for the encouragement m2c1Iw, the ply at the front is not de laminating rather it has come adrift. The hull is in better nick than i expected. I will give her a proper clean on the weekend and post pictures of any hull issues.
