    Default Mystery Boat Bit

Can anyone help me identify this boat bit for me. It was part of the bowsprit of a 30 foot timber cruiser when i bought her and was located more towards the end of the bowsprit than at the samson post end. Hopefully someone may be able to give if a name as i am sick of calling it nothing. Unfortunately no prizes for the winner

    Thanks for the interest

That looks to be 4 pieces, not one. The ring at the top is an eye nut. The conical shaped thing with the flange is a spacer of some sort and of course there is a unique bolt, possibly custom made (threaded rod to suit) and a nut.

The fitting does consist of four pieces and looks like to be made of brass so unlikely to be homemade. The cone piece with the flange swings freely on the bolt . Maybe a tie up point otherwise no idea . Any further ideas may help.

I'll assume you mean the cone spins freely, though may not when dogged down tight aboard a boat. I think it's a fairlead of some sort, possibly near a bow sprit. The material is bronze not brass and is also easily forged, cut, welded, threaded, etc.

I could live with Eric, but it looks more like a Tom to me, then again, I'm a bit traditional.
