I think a big factor is that this boat is to be used on a lake, be it a large
lake. Nearly 80 miles long and 38,000 acres. Over 400 miles of
shore line. But it is only about a mile plus at it's widest point.

A lot different than going to sea in a 12' boat. We don't have tides
and rips and all that. We do have sudden thunder storms like we
had yesterday. They normally last an hour or less and you can
    see and hear them coming.

    My lake!

This is the area I will be in most of the time.

I will go up to the north end some times.

    Hi Papa,

the Hartley is going very well. I've fitted the new stemhead fitting and it made a huge difference to the effectiveness of my roller furling. Thanks again. I'll post some pics of how I have it set up soon.

Your lake looks great - such a fantastic place for pottering around in a small boat. With names like Lost Bridge Villiage, Beaver Shores and Prairie Creek it sounds like it was originally explored by the Swallows and Amazons

On second thoughts, I take that back Papa.
I just zoomed out on Google maps.
What a FANTASTIC boating area !!
You are on a lake that matches Victoria's Lake Eildon for size & scenery,
and downstream there are two or three even bigger reservoirs.
Not to mention the ones a bit west of you.
What an excellent boat to go exploring in.
Do you have to go back to work any time in the next few years?

    cheers

These are all flood control, hydro-electric dams built in the late 50's
and early 60's. I fished the river long before the dams were built.
They all provide water as well now. For millions of people.

They generate millions of tourist dollars as well.

The host many national bass tournaments.

I guess you could call them "Bread and Butter" lakes.

To give you a perspective, this is a speed boat and the launch area
    in my earlier pic's.
