[Ongoing] 12ft Skiff - Summer Breeze Build
Hello folks!
I'm currently building a Summer Breeze Skiff from plans by David Beede. I'm updating an Imgur album every day or two with process pictures: Summer Breeze Construction - Imgur
I'll be adding pictures as construction moves along, and I'll post an update here whenever there's a significant update to the photo album. Would you folks want me to post all the pictures here as well?
I hope this album will be of use to other beginner boatbuilders, and I welcome any feedback and comments you fine folk might have.
I'm making two major changes from the plans: switching from a leeboard to a centerboard (mounted right in front of the frame), and switching rigs to a larger balanced lug sail (and moving the mast forward to accommodate). I'll also be using a Storer-style cassette rudder.
--Current Notes--
[5 July '14] Right now there's two issues I'm trying to resolve. I've put the screws too close to the side and bottom panel post-trim edges when attaching them to the transom, and I'm brainstorming ways to avoid screw pull-out. For the other issue, the Titebond 3 I'm using for the spars is probably drying before I can laminate them- I will try an early-morning glue-up. All the pictures I have are up in the album- currently 51 photos!

A 2 - 3% cut (water) in the TiteBond II bottle will greatly improve it's working time. No more than 10% and it will weaken it slightly, but likely still stronger then typical mast stock.
Remove the offending screws and bond the holes, which will improve fastener pullout by 50%.

Just curious. You seem to be having a lot of adhesive issues. What reason for not using epoxy?

Hello again folks!
I got my computer working once again, and so here's an update to my build album!
Currently working on:
------------------------------
- Finishing the spars (going from octagon to round, drilling holes)
- Installing second inwale
- Preparing interior for painting
- Finish shaping the NACA 00XX foils using my router jig
Current Issues:
------------------------------
I plan to use a Storer-style cassette rudder, and I'm not sure how to keep the NACA foil rudder from wobbling inside a parallel-sided case.
It shows that this is my first boat, but I sure am learning a lot!

To PAR:
I tried cutting the Titebond with a bit of water, but it still didn't work. I used a whole bunch of clamps, planed the surfaces to ensure they mated, so either I missed something or I got a bad batch of glue.
I switched to PL Premium to laminate my (solid) spars. I tested the offcuts to destruction, and they broke at the wood for all cases, so that'll be satisfactory for a first set of spars.
To plywood tom and PAR:
I've learned my lesson, and for any further build I will listen to the experts and pray at the altar of the Epoxy gods!
