    Default Primer / Topcoat compatibilities

    I am building a lovely little double-ender and am now up to the painting stage. The consensus around the Wooden Boat Centre Docklands, MLB seems to be to go two-pack and a good job will almost last the life of an ocassional daysailer.
    My interior has now been coated with the Norglass Shipshape primer/undrcoat but it does not seem to be doing as good a job filling surface faults as the Hempel Light Primer many others are using.
    Could i swap to the Hempel for the second coat and then continue with the Norglass two-pack Northane topcoat product?

    It does get technical doesn't it?

    If the two primers are the same type, I don't see a problem with switching, though I know what the manufacture will say and justifiably so too. Compatibility issues when you use non-recommended products, can lead to issues. If it's just a mater of an extra coat of the Norglass, then just use an extra coat, but if you looking to fill some pretty deep scratches, a different primer with a light topping off with the Norglass primer, will probably work just fine and eliminate any compatibility problems.
