Thread: A project boat on the move

On 4 May 2013 I posted a request for information about Norglass solvent and mentioned that I had to complete work on my halting restoration of an old plywood runabout to enable me to move house.
I am amazed that three weeks later I am able to post that the power of a deadline has focused my efforts and I am happy to report that this weekend I got my project onto it's trailer and ready for the move.
Over about 2 and a half weeks I completed 4 undercoats of Norglass Weatherfast Pri-Coat and 3 coats of Weatherfast Premium Enamel to the bottom of the boat. I then purcahsed a new trailer and spent a few hours setting the rollers and skids using a template of the hull to give me the deadrise and the stringer placement. The boat is beamy and partially hangs over the trailer's mudguards so clearance for the newly painted bottom was a big issue.
A couple of mates came around on Saturday morning and we turned the hull over onto a platform made from styrofoam, blankets and doonas on the garage floor and then we lined up the trailer to the boat and simply winched it on.
We are now ready for the 250km road trip on Friday and I have made great progress with a project that had unfortunately become a bit of a chore. The process of getting the boat off it's side and onto the trailer has rekindled my enthusiasm for the project and now I can't wait to do further work on it.
