So you are looking for a clear finish, but don't want to give the whole outer a coat of clear pox ?
(which would hide the bleed-throughs, but it does change the colour of the wood, and presumably change the tone of the drum. yes?).

Correct. I want to have the options of staining the wood when need be also. I prefer the polyurethane clear coats than using and epoxy as a top coat. In the new pic the shell has a coat of oil on it.
