I reckon theres another couple of boats in me yet. I need a fast canoe to get me up the end of Patonga Creek quickly and may build a North Bay greenland style kayak (from Chris Kulzyckis book again) - and I may even get that done before I do the oars and sliding seat. I also want to do the wherry-style - ie open hulled sliding seat rower. That is probably all though as thats me taken care of and my wife doesnt like boats and neither my wife nor I have any family for me to build boats for.
I was thinking today that I'll probably never get to do anything with real cachet like a strip-planked canoe as I just wont have the need and building a boat ties my garage/shed up completely - so I cant spend long on a build.
This boatbuilding has been fun though. I have been building furniture, boxes and tools for about 5 years now and its a pleasing thing to see a nice bit of furniture and know you did it yourself - but its a level of satisfaction well above that to actually have a boat at the end. A big boys toy you can enjoy yourself in for years to come. Its like its the greatest payoff for the most moderate amount of work. Which is more fun - a table or a boat - no contest.
