    Default New Sabre Build

    Hey all,

As mentioned in a plywood thread, Louis at Boating Hardware here in Fremantle is building a stitch and glue Sabre.

It's going together pretty quick but if anyone wants a look please feel free to drop by.
Address and details can be found here www.boatinghardware.com.au

    Otherwise pics and updates here

    Trying to update atleast weekly.

Great little boats that have just enough one design aspect to keep the racing close but have just enough leeway in alterations to keep it interesting!!! We are keeping an official tab but looks like you should be able to get a home built boat on the water for between $3000-$6000 depending on paint, deck gear, sails etc.

    Cheers,

    Mez

There aint no way I could build a boat at work without getting sacked for ignoring the customers.

Sounds like a top spot to work

Perhaps there may be a vacancy coming up

They are a great little boat with good sailing and good racing.

It is possible to pick up quite a nice one for about 2-3000 or a fixer upper for much less.

This is one of the advantages of having a class where wooden boats can still be built. It keeps the prices well down because most builders are happy to get the money for materials back so they can build the next one.

As soon as fibreglass takes over as the main thing ... the prices go up and up.

Which is not what they promised us in the 70's when glass was fighting with ply.

    Very Cool Mezaire

More pics now at Sabre Build Boating Hardware Prosail – Perth

Build going well, probably gets about 5 hours a week average spent on it so total time so far would be about 50 hours, eg; you could get one of these to paint stage at home in less than two months of weekends and nights and still have time to mow the lawn!!!

Class is going great guns here in the West. 7 boats currently being built, 4 more have ordered plans and probably 10 more very keen. Hopefully there could be 20+ boats at the state titles this year, not bad for a class that has only been in the state for 3 years.

Yeah there might be a vacancy coming up Darce but I doubt it pays as well or has the time off that your current gig has. Anway, can you imagine trying to build one of these on a sub??!!!!
