    Default Sailing /power canoe

    HI All,

Just thought I would , I would post a couple of pictures of my latest build.

I was going to build 1 of these for myself for fishing, then a friend decided he would like 1 for sailing , power , and rowing. So being the nice bloke that I am , I built his first.

Sorry I hit the submit key in error so had to EDIT,

The canoe is based on a British design, and I believe that it will work well, especially with 2hp Motor, and will be interested to see how it goes under sail.

    Cheers,

    Jeff

Oh, wow! I am very impressed; it is beautiful.

Pardon my ignorance, as I am almost totally uneducated in matters nautical: does it have a centreboard or does the width/depth of the hull counterbalance the sail?

How long did it take you to build?

    MichaelM,

There is a pivoting center board , in the case under the center thwart, it has 2 ropes , 1 to release & raise and the other to lock down the board.

The hull is made from E-Lite Plywood, which is Balsa cored, and weighs in at 9.5Kg per 2440x1220mx9mm sheet.

    hull dimensions as follows ,
    length 3.800Mt
    beam 1.118Mt
    depth 0.350mm
    weight 30Kg approximately

the weight of the crew and the wide beam off-set the sail, the center bard in this hull is a pivot for turning/tacking & gybing.

It has taken 3 months to build , but then I was only doing 2-3 days a week, on the build, it could be built faster, and slightly lighter , as the plans specify 3-/4.5-/6mm plywood, and I have modified the design heavily,

    1. mast , boom,
    2 stern hung rudder
    3. pivoting center board
    4, larger fore deck
    5. larger rear seat&buoyancy tank.

The Canoe is being launched this weekend , weather permitting.

We have modified the headsail, by adding another panel to the bottom edge, o lower the clew,.

I will post some PIC's of the launch .
