Well the sheathing is all done, took 5 years part time to complete. Reshape the stern and bow, refit the stern and bow chainplates, some work to be done to the rudder pintle then glass the hull.

Fabulous effort; what a commitment. Are you having counselling yet?
Rolling her over will be a doddle after all that stapling. Look forward to more progress.

glass going on
The first of the glass is on!! just around the pintles etc, as soon as clear weather returns, the rest of the hull, and then the torture board. Yippee
The interior which has been 75% stripped of paint, has managed to grow some black mildew/mould on the bare timber, anyone with suggestions on how to get rid of this?

Hi Carmen,
Is she the original Carmen or one of the later boats? My uncle was a mate of Ron Swanson and had a Carmen built which he used to win the Hobart race, she was called Cadence.
Cheers

Yes she is the original Carmen, I used to moor her alongside Cadence at Castlecrag Boatshed in Sydney back in the 70's

What is the colored resin at the end of the keel? Not polyester I hope. The usual recommendation for mildew and mold is 50/50 beach and water, but I've been known to fill a squirt bottle with straight bleach, soak it down then and go after it with a hose.

It's great the boat is coming together! We all owe you a debt of gratitude for keeping this classic (and historic) boat alive.

Hi Carmen,
if you want to save a heap of time with applying/sanding filler use a spray filler instead of mixing micro balloons. We use Altex #2 High build and could get an even couple of mm of bog on a boat that size in around 2 hours. It sands beautifully and the hardness of the mix is consistent which can be difficult to achieve when you mix your own unless you weigh accurately. It sands beautifully too and fills pinholes and glass weave really well. Only downside is you need a good compressor and a 3.5mm tip gun. International and Awlgrip make a similar product.
Looks great.

The entire hull is now glassed, some fairing needed but much better than originally anticipated, looking forward to rolling her over and into some sort of cradle, the balast has to be refitted and so it would I think, be a simpler matter to jack up 2 tons of ballast to the boat rather than drop a 2 ton boat down onto the ballast

The hull is faired and awaiting high build. The ballast has been glassed and faired and an illmenite shoe fitted. Rain sure delayed everything, gave life to midges and mossies.
