    Default Surf Boat Restoration

    Having almost completed the restoration of a Flying Dutchman for the Queensland Maritime Museum, the Wooden Boat Association of Queensland is now lining up a new project restoring an iconic surf-boat.

    More words and pictures to follow as the project progresses.

    You'll have to find someone to restore a set of budgey-smugglers to match. This could be testing. Let's have none of these long 'board-shorts' in this restoration!

    Today was a 'highly destructive day' as we started dismantling the surf-boat in preparation for restoring her. Whoever put those nuts, bolts, screws and rivets in didn't mean for them to come out and it took the combined ingenuity of all hands to get the job done. Bulkheads, fore and aft, are now removed giving access to those compartments. Stainless steel rowlock blocks and some of the other stainless steel fittings have been removed and carefully labelled. Some of the laminated thwart knees have been removed and will be used as models from which replacements will be copied.

    It's gonna be a while.....
