The trim pieces have been dyed as previously mentioned and now await varnish and the final decision on the background colour.

Many thanks for your input Bob but it hasn’t made the decision any easier! As you can imagine I’ve attempted many colours but in the end I think I’ll go with the Sheer colour as I believe it blends in well. If it doesn’t work I can always try again!

Looks great and classy, like the rest of the boat.

The trim and the back of the board have now been completed using Norglass Weatherfast Poly Clear Gloss, not varnish as previously indicated.

On to the colour – as mentioned previously I went with the Gunwhale Stripe colour and this is also complete after three coats.

Now we await the full drying time before attempting to add all the letters and the attachment screws - these will be integral with the first and last letters.

Thanks Greg - still more to come to get it ready for attachment! I never cease to be amazed at the time it takes for these things. I’m following your thread daily so keep at it!

Thanks Greg! I think my final job before leaving the shed is the brass half round rubbing strip on the rub rail. You're way ahead of me on this one! 👍

Haha! Mr. Ledger's tips were very good. I didnt use 5200 due to its permanence and possible need to replace the rubrails, brass and wood. Butt joints are all but invisible but countersinking after fastening is real good advice. countersinking can make brass bend at the drilling!!!! DAMHIK (previous boat that never did get brass). I am approaching the countersink and scre heads filing step. Will post, Best to you!

Thanks Greg and hope everything is progressing well with your Rub Rail. I have bitten the bullet to go down the same road prior to pulling her out of the shed. I have been procrastinating big time on this but it's in front of me now. I will continue the use of standard ½” wide x 3/16” thick D Mould previously used on the Stem which provides some regularity to the process.

Now it is just a matter of ensuring my attachment process is as uniform as I can get it! I find that centralizing holes in half round is a complete pain in the a… so went with a small drill bit to begin with. When happy, moved to a drill size that gives clearance for the brass 3/4" dome head CS screws in the D Mould. Then used a punch that fits the hole to give me a good start to drill the smaller hole requirement into the Gunwale itself. The screws will provide about 5/8" bite as I will bed them down so no filing should be necessary. I have temporarily attached the first length!

Process from here –
Attach the other 3 Rails, apply masking tape either side, remove screws, apply Sikaflex 291 sealant, re-screw, let sealant set, remove tape, remove screws one at a time, countersink and then re-screw.

The process has begun…they’re on and am currently allowing the sealant to set prior to screw removal one at a time, countersinking and re-bedding the screws.

I decided to leave the tape on until all the screw work is complete as I want to clean up the brass a bit. Due to its longevity in the rafters it has accumulated discolouration in a large number of places due to age and bird goop!
