Did you clean off the excess sealant before it set or will it be cut off later?

Hello Laurie! Rubrails are nice. They may save us if we ever come uo against a piling too fast! I just went back to your page 24 to get some ideas on the trailering spar crutches. I thank you again for the great ideas and execution to work from! I think I too will use an approach like yours for the after support and the collar seems like the way to go too! ...keeps rain out, gives 360 support and added strength. Also provides attachment for a mast boot but I may not use one.
Best,
GregLast edited by gregleetaylor; 23rd August 2020 at 02:06 PM. Reason: found source of 12mm rubber

230 Rub Rail Cont…1
This note should answer your question Bob and no worries Greg - great to hear from you both.
Screws have been countersunk and re-bedded. I awaited the specified time for the 291 to dry completely before commencement of the final finishing task.
A quarter of the railing has been completed and some pics below of the heads filed down in line with the rail. Routine was to remove excess 291, use 3 different file sizes, 240 grit and then steel wool. Remove tape and finish with a rub down with Brasso. Big job!

Looks great Laurie! Yes, not looking forward to all the tedium but gratifying when done. I spaced my little screws at 75mm for my 9mm brass so Ive got a whole lotta careful filing ahead!!!

231 Rub Rail Cont…2
Hi Greg...I don't think so!!!
Anyhow, I’m all done and dusted! Now just need to do a review of the whole boat prior to taking her out of the shed for the final Rigging requirements. What a journey!!!

Thanks for the tour Laurie!
Meerkat really has a look with personality abundant. Just imagine what a feeling it will be to have her carrying you along on a fine day!!!
...taking most of what you did for travelling crutches thank you... I plan on carrying the boom, gaff and sail together as a bundle. I also plan to have two canvas spars bags for the road; one for the mast...
I am NOT going to launch this year after all. I just have too much to do to satisfy me so now planning this coming spring; fall for you so, we'll both be sailing then!

232 Safety Cont 2…
Home duties have been calling so it’s been awhile but I have been poking my nose into the shed now and then attempting to put away the safety stuff.
I purchased a waterproof ditty bag for my 1.5Kg Folding Grapnel Anchor and 3 strand nylon Rode – perfect size but as always, I’m stymied as to the best place for storage on board. Here are some pics of obvious places so some feedback as to the best place would be appreciated.
So here's what we have...
PB021153-1.jpg PB021149-1.jpg
Under or over the floor boards up fwd in front of the CB Case
PB021144-1.jpg PB021145-1.jpg
Under the Floor Board aft of the CB case or somewhere under the rear seat.

If you plan on using it then somewhere accessible but if it's only a just in case thing then somewhere out of the way.
I was beginning to wonder if you were OK - or if you had sneaked out for a sail without telling us. Glad to see it's all good.Cheers, Bob the labrat

Provided you can easily lift the gorgeous cockpit grate, I'd put it there. ...out of the way, limited movement in windy conditions and you can get it without going forward, i.e. comes to hand quickly. Very much hoping to see you on the water Laurie. I'll be antipodally joining you about May!!!!

233 Safety Cont 3...
Many thanks for the comments, guys...I think I'll go with under the Floorboards aft for the Anchor Bag and hope it's as waterproof as advertised! If not, I can always take it out and dry it when I get home. I'm just a day sailor!
Next job was the positioning of the Buoyancy Fenders and have provided some more pics, as ever, for comment. One either side up fwd and positioned to assist keeping the CB Rudder slot above water should she flood (hopefully) if we get into such a situation.

Greetings and best to you on Remembrance Day!
I have no authority on floatation. My GUESS is that just above the sole (and under the seats as you have done) are good locations. They fit nicely where they are so I like that! I would stay away from drilling into the ribs for attaching but; perhap epoxy on some attachment points to ribs and hull as closely located anchors will serve best if ever swamped??? How about lowering the position to just above the sole and leading lines from the floors (under the sole) around the fenders( or through them) and back to the floors. You could hold them against the hull with smaller cord glued on attachment points on the hull (2 cents).
Best,
Greg
