    Default Trawn Prawler update

Thanks for the info on finding out the info the Trawn prawlers engine, I have now progressed considerably on the engine front - and I now know a fair bit about the lister engine!

The knock noise coming from the engine was simply the exhaust valve (in second pot)being whacked as it had finally seized in its sleeve. This happened due to some condensation leaking back from the exhaust manifold into the head. After taking off the cylinder head and stripping it down, the other 2 valves in the other pots were not far behind in seizing. I have now tapped in a drain valve to the manifold to stop this problem.

After a few emails to the master dealer in the UK, i now have 6 new valves, shims and a head and maifold gasket kit coming for the re conditioning ( 150 quid, pretty cheap considering...)

The engine still rotates nicely so i am hoping nothing else has been damaged. Now the donk seems to be fine, I will be able to move her to a slipway for some much needed timber and paint work - this is where the fun really begins....

Can any of the members out there advise on the subject of stripping a hull of its old paint? the paint on this boat is pretty old and flaking off in large chunks (above waterline) Do I sand it all off with a large orbital/belt sander? or is there a better method for a 27ft timber boat?

    cheers

    D
