    Default wooden boat surveyor

    G'day all,

    I am looking to buy a wooden trailer yacht (6m) and wanted to ask if any of the forum know of a good wooden boat marine surveyor in Melbourne?

    I am looking at a Scruffie Secret 20 which was built in 2002. I have loved this design for 3+ years and was set to build one from scratch. But the opportunity to buy this particular boat has come up and I wanted to try and get some help. I am completely new to sailing, and would appreciate any help to workout if the boat is worth it, safe and sound.

    Hi and welcome to the forum.

    There used to be a mob called the Small Craft Surveyors Association of Australia with members in each state but I think they changed their name a few years ago - I guess you could google them up and see.

    You are certainly doing the right thing in getting a survey before purchase. if you are looking at insuring the boat, I would phone your proposed insurer and ask them if they could recommend a surveyor if you can't find one. Most insurance companies will require a survey before insuring a second hand vessel.
