yes Richard i think i've read some where on here that you were once building one it really would be a shame not to finish her, you can't have much to do to her (maybe a bit more sanding)

my enthusiasm was beginning to wain, but now shes over i'm rearing to go on her again

well it's be a while since my last update due to to much work over Christmas and then a very cold spell which meant no epoxying but the weather has now warmed up enough for me to have put in a few hours

the first pic shows her just after the turn over and that is pretty much how she has been on till just over a week ago, even though it has been cold i had been busy cutting and dry fitting a lot of the parts then over this last week a lot of it has now been fitted as per last two picys

i am hopping the weather holds out and does'nt get cold again as i intend to launch her on the 4th of April (12 weeks time) what am i doing typing i should be working on my Yellowtail

Good stuff. I've had to take a break from mine this last week to pull apart my car after my wife dropped the diff on the road, and a damn client wants something done too!

I'm planning on getting back to her on Thursday (the Yellowtail that is).

Default I'll swap our heatwave for some of that cold weather.

Three mid to high 30s days for each of the last 2 weeks and now 5 in a row forecast this week-I've been up at sparrows every morning trying to get the brightwork coats on before it gets too hot to apply varnish and Deks, but nearly there now.I wonder how many people it's going to take to lift it from under the house upstairs to the driveway.During the build I've used tackle to hoist and turn her singlehanded.
    Cheers,
    Dave.

Honkers, it seems you have had a battle with the weather as some of us in Aust. have, but at the other end of the thermometer. Cold conditions would be really frustrating- I was still able to work on days over 40 degrees (slow hardener), as long as I could keep an eye out for fires and an ear on the radio for news of fires. It has been a very tense week in rural Victoria.
Great to see her turned and the internal spaces carved up a bit. The seat decks make her look bigger inside- or are you using an inflatable camera?
I look forward to further pics of internal detailing. I find the internals more enjoyable to work on than the exterior because it becomes easier to imagine the thing being used.

Well speaking of weather effects... I had a bit of a weather-induced setback. A certain un-named friend moved my boat outside on the 42C day we had here (the day of the bushfires down south). He thoughtfully covered it with a blue tarp.

Gawd only knows what temp it got up to under that tarp - well over 100C at a guess - it was enough to open up the glue seams on the bottom of the keel - the centreboard cheek pieces and a couple of bits we used to get a decent Spotted Gum shoe on the Mountain Ash keel. "Ian, I've buggered your boat" was the call I got.

Anyhow - to cut a long story short (I'll update my thread) - I had to spline those joints. I planed the last spline down today.

Sometimes cool weather can be a blessing.

well its been a while since any real work has been done to my Yellowtail due to the cold weather but this last two weeks have warmed up nicely
i have taken a bit of time off work to get as much work done on here as the launch date will hopefully be in six weeks time

it's amazing how much she has changed in the last two weeks (well in my eyes she has) i have fitted all the ribs, even though they are not needed i have put then just for aesthetics, the foredeck is all planked using Utile, the gunwales have been fitted in oak but still need a final strip of 15 x 25mm over then to hide the screw holes (first photo) so i have a nice contrast in wood colours (second photo) and rear section has been epoxied and the and all the seat sections have been fitted

so now all i need to do to complete her is fit the combing, finish the seat/locker tops, fit the remaining gunwale strips, a lot more sanding then epoxy and paint her then go and enjoy my last eight months of work

The deck looks stunning. It must feel as though all your work is finally coming together. Such a solid looking little ship.

    Thanks Rob
i was starting to get a bit despondent and having nightmares that she would never be finished in time to be launched the first week of April with but now since i've fitted the gunwales and deck it looks like it may happen, and it feels good having ordered the last four pieces of timber from the timber yard

as for being solid it's like a brick out house (as we say in this part of the world ) i can't believe how solid she feels, i though i would have a few problems as i have not fitted her out as per plan, she should have the seating running the full length both sides with only a 500mm space in the middle, thats also why i added the extra lower rubbing strip and ribs (not on plan) for extra strength

well daddles if you reading this shes nearly finished but you where right about all the sanding (in the proses i seem to have traped a nerve in my wrist that will need a small opp to release it) this has also ment i have had to use some power tools instead of hand tools, i really would have liked to have totally built her by hand

i had this afternoon of work to give her the final 3 coats of epoxy to the decking and gunwales
the pictures were taken after the first coat of epoxy so it's not as shiny as it is now with the 3 coats but you get the idea

now comes the painting stage (after a bit more rubbing down) i'm planing to paint the interior cream/beige but all the ribs will be varnished, coaming is to be painted white, shear strake is going to be dark blue, hull will remain white and the lower rubbing strip, gunwales and deck will be varnished.

it was a bit of a sad day as i have started to pack away some of the tools i no longer need to take them home with me, i'm going to miss poping down after work and on weekends to work on her when shes finished

Such lovely work. That front three-quarter view is a killer. New home for the tools now? I bet they aren't unemployed for too long!

Default Wish I could build so fast!

She's looking terrific-good job on that coaming, that was the hardest part of the entire build for me-I wound up using small sections for the curved area, scarfed on the bench and glued up in situ and followed by generous amounts of fairing blend.I really like the look of the lower rubbing strake, wish I'd thought of it now -I think I would have bright-finished the sheer strake if I had done mine that way.According to a recent discussion on the fishing forum I visit, that Garmin unit is a beauty-I'll have to start saving for something similar after I get a trailer sorted out. What type of propulsion are you looking at?
    Cheers,
    Dave.
