I could not agree more to this. I came here too to show solidarity with the community and disdain for AirTasker. Also to vent...

I hate that AirTasker has done this. I have cancelled my AirTasker and OneFlare accounts as soon as I realised I was being redirected to the OneFlare site every time I clicked on a "Renovate Forum" link. Their sites are shi*t anyway, very limited and misleading. They are basically dumbing down of the population by removing democratised knowledge, and unshering unsuspecting people through their torturous commercialised sales funnel.

Totally disrespectful, distrustful, greedy and short-sighted.

I was a frequent visitor to Renovateforum. Over the last few years my visits became more infrequent.
There was at least one thread I posted where the replies were not appropriate or helpful. There were some regular members who gave sound advice, but there was at least one whose comments started grate on me, like they new everything, or gave a response in jest.

Hopefully, this will be a new start.

I am surprised the forum just closed it's doors, there was so many good articles and information on there, and now it's all inaccessible.
The info is still relevant, and will still be relevant for the future, Oneflare owe it to all the people that replied to thousands of topics to keep it accessible.

I just got back from a few months overseas and that was a shock. The highlights for me were the ‘go to whoa’ threads by Su renovating her miner’s cottage and the guy with the Dandenong insulated panels house reno/shed build done in between looking after the kids!

Well, I'm a little late to the party. I can't believe renovateforum was closed down, I've been infrequent to it the last 12months or so, but have had found it a most friendly and useful resource. It seems shocking how much information would have been lost.

I had to have a look, and there’s a redirect on the site. I smiled (read: curled my lip) at the comment that the forum has closed its doors. Yeah, well sure it has. That’s not a lie but it’s not quite the complete picture as there was nothing about the new venue right across the street (ie. this one).

Google will be full of search results for “renovateforum” that now direct them to Oneflare. Can something be done about that?

Maybe run google ads for this search ?

Wayback Machine is about the only way the info can be read. Can't be copied otherwise it would all be here now. Have had the computer guru look into it and the general consensus is... Um, ahh, NUP!

Scraping Wayback Machine is possible to get the data, but the forums wouldn't be in the same structure, though.

I have seen a few comments elsewhere about copyright, but how would that be an issue? The material is in the public domain and the author of the works is the person posting, not the host. Besides, Wayback Machine would be infringing copyright.

Below in an example of downloaded and heavily edited post from WayBack Machine.
Downloads from WayBack do not conform to regular forum protocols for a thread, because they are just an archive and nothing more.

The download has been heavily edited to give just the basic info like poster name, date of post, time, location, and the same for all the reply post.

Below the edited example I have shown the thread exactly as it was copied from WayBack.

All in all this will give you an idea of what can be done.

So if you have found a thread on there that you want for your own reference then go for it. Just be aware that much of what is listed on Wayback may not be available, as it seems a lot of it is now dead because of the shutdown of the original forum. WayBack is basically un searchable and no graphics are available to be viewed or downloaded unless the owner of them had stored on another site and even then they may not work.

Hi all, new here
Bit embarrassed that this is my first pot but I have tried to understand the post regarding uploading photos but I just cannot get it to work and the video isn't working. Could someone please give specific directions? My file just sits there no matter the file size I put in.

Yep - this is a common issue. And what’s worse the site doesn’t indicate the issue - just doesn’t upload the photo! Very 1990s!

You can use an image resizer or just email the image to yourself and choose a smaller size for the images in the email browser (at least that works with iCloud!)

What follows below is exactly how the thread appeared when copied from WayBack, prior to being edited. There is around 30-40 minutes work to take a thread from it's copied form as shown below, to the edited version above.
Anyone who has the unlimited, time energy and an endending inclination to have a go, can download and post threads to the respective forum here. Not sure if they would be of use or just a massive nuisance.

Couple of things:

• Large WIP's and other similar multi post threads probably probably won't load load due to size restrictions on individual posts.
• Threads with up to 20 or more posts could take up to a couple of hours or more to edit.
• Dumping an unedited thread would be a waste of time, space and energy as they are too hard to follow and take up a massive amount of valuable space and forum resources.

If anyone feels brave (or stupid) enough to have a go at it, please contact me and I will arrange for you to have a special registration like Librarian or similar so as the threads will all have the same posting status and can be edited as you go.

The unedited version is horrible. Reading it causes my blood to boil due to the messiness of it. Whoever came up with WayBack seems to have had no regard for forum content.

We have our own Archives on WWF and MWF which can be found on the Navigation Bar at the bottom of all pages. Easier to copy and make sense of but again it's just an archive and used to keep the bots happily listing us high on their searches for woodwork related stuff.

We are also archived on WayBack but our own homegrown archive is way easier to use and way faster. Pretty sure Renovate forum didn't have their own. If they did, it went west with the forum closure.

The homegrown version will/should show if the main forums are closed down for maintenance or similar. They update instantly when a post is done on here.

No interest in selling? they would just rather years of democratised knowledge on how to fix things, DIY and Renovate be removed?

Airtasker and the like should be ashamed of themselves, how typical that big capital or even medium capital comes in like this and removes such a handy source of knowledge so it's only now available by going through their controlled channels and paying for it.

We will shut the likes of them down one day.

I started here on WWF and then moved across to renovateforum when it moved and I echo many others here when they say how much it helped them. If you saw my posts on there I attempted to fill my posts with detailed images as well to help gain useful answers and leave knowledge for others to follow.

Thanks to UBeaut for keeping WWF going and I note his posts in this thread about restarting a renovateforum using one of his domains. As Woodworkers forum is not intuitive for people to come to, I think if possibe, you should start up one of those domains.
