    Default Bricking Advise

Hello there all you kind people....

I am about to embark on building a small feature wall at the end of my pergola.... and what I want to know is in regards to footings....

The wall is possibly going to be about 8 bricks high single width, in a "u" shape so to speak.....

The two short edges will be about 1.6m and the long span will be about 4.335m.

I was planning on laying concrete footings about 200MM wide and 300mm deep and with some rio mesh boxed through.....as I am building on Highly re-active clay soil......

    Will this suffice?

Also, over the 4.335m span there will be 4 90x90 pergola posts which tie off to the bricks with brick ties to add that extra stability.....

Basically I am just making sure what I have planned is correct before mixing up close to 2 cubic metres of cement with a mixer and owing a few mates plenty of beers....

I can't help you other than to say that if a certain member, going by the alias of ozwinner answers your question, don't take any notice, he is a first grade reprobate.

    Actually he's a brickie/exbrickie/brickie so he'll know.

    BTW welcome aboard.

    Hi
If it is just a feature wall 8 courses high and not a retaining wall, 100mm ( thickness) of concrete is fine.

No it will not be holding any weight, basically will be a feature wall, 8-10 courses high at the most, then lattice tops to fill up rest of space and to still allow air flow......

Happy to hear that all I have to do now is level the area and give it a nice wack with a plate compactor to harden it a little.. and run smaller formwork...

Thanks for saving my back and beer stash heheh
