    Default Cost of Repointing by a professional

    Got a guy coming out to quote on doing some re pointing, any ideas of cost? what should i be asking him to see if he is any good or not?

    Ask if he can give you the address of some work he has done locally so you can evaluate the quality of his work.

    Do you have any issues with damp causing fretting of the brick faces or the mortar?

    If so, be sure he is able to get to the cause and fix it.

    Do you know what type of mortar was originally used?

    I have been told that it is best to repoint with the same type of mortar as was originally used, in other words, do not repoint with a strong cement based mortar if the original is lime mortar and vice versa.

    Has there been any mortar repaired around the house?

    If so, did it hold up and was it a neat job or will it need to be dug out and redone?

    One last thing I thought of is be sure the colour of the mortar can be matched.

    Please post a follow up as I am needing to go down this road soon and I would be very interested in the progress.
