Anybody know this 30' cruiser MARAKI?
Hi everyone from Phil and my wife Aina in Ballina, Nth Coast of NSW. I have uploaded a photo of our latest boat and wonder does anybody know her and if so her exact age (we were told about 1936?) and who built/designed her? We bought her from a couple in Manly Qld who basically knew nothing about her. She appears to be oregon on hardwood frames, carvel construction and the engine I would say is an upgrade to Perkins p3 144 or Ford Dexta built under license in the USA just after WW11. She is basically all original right down to the leadlight cupboard in the saloon. She is roughly 30' long with a beam about 7'6". Full deadwood keel drawing very little at the bow trailing down to 3' draft at the stern. Her current name is MARAKI which may not be her original christening name. I will never change it as I an old superstitious sailer! Any comments warmly welcomed, thanks Phil

Might just have been the style which was popular at the time, but possible
family resemblance to Norm Wright boats of similar vintage?
eg Silver Spray & Esna at - www.millarsphoto.com.au
The people putting together ANZ Ship Register may also have info (Maraki isn't listed on their Norm Wright build list, but neither are Silver Spray or Esna, so...)
hope this helps

G'day Phil
Mori Flapan has updated the list of Wright builds in consultation with Bill Wright..
The list has increased from 67 vessels to 405 vessels. And there are still many more that are yet to be found and listed.
Wright Boats
Not saying yours is a Wright boat, but it might be worth hunting around for any
ID numbers or other hints carved into any structural timbers anywhere on the
boat. Mori comments that one boat's ID was carved into a stinger in the WC.
cheers
AJ

Could possibly have been built by Nichols Bros. 1308 Lytton Rd, Hemmant Ph 07 33904877 as they built similar Bay Cruisers about the same time and it looks exactly like their designs. Huon Pine hull, hardwood frame etc but there were several variants on superstructure. Perhaps contacting them - if they didn't build it, they would know who did.
I live at Manly (Qld) and have a few contacts at the Marina so I will ask about
Also ask about at http://www.woodenboat.org.au/index.php/queensland

To all of you who have responded, again, many thanks, it is much appreciated. Am trying to follow up some the 'lead' suggestions you have made, regards Phil and Aina
