Where to get Australian Plans from.
I want to build a boat as mentioned in my previous posts. I am after a boat that is around the 15ft and I am able to have a section of the boat that has a cabin on it. I love the 1950's designs from America (Seababe and Cruisette) but I am after an Australian plan that uses metric plans. I want the boat for fishing and to just hang out on.

G'day Damon
Do we make a rash assumption from your sig that your were born in 1984 & therefore
have not used anything but metric measures ?
And take it that you understand that any plans drawn before 1974 will most likely use Imperial measures, because 1974 is when Oz made the switch to metric ?
And that probably quite a few designs still used imperial afterwards too ?
So you are most likely to be restricted to modern(ish) designs, unless a designer went
back & re-scaled their imperial plans to metric.
Some names to research:
Michael Storer
Ross Lillistone
David Payne
Mike Waller
Murray Isles
Mike Roberts
Terry Buddell
Mark Bowdidge
are some current Australian designers who I think have or may have power boats in
your size range. (can't find a web site for Mike Roberts, & Murray Isles recreational
range is only available through waybackwhen)
As far as your planned use for the boat, you haven't mentioned what waters you
plan to fish & hang out on. For example, Storer's Day Boat would not be at home off
shore, while Payne's 4.6M inboard launch would struggle with extensive shallows.
It may also pay you to expand your options to include sources like Hartley, Brooks, &
Pelin from NZ, Paul Riccelli & Phil Bolger from the USA & Selway Fisher in the UK.

David Payne does a nice range of traditional looking but modern construction motor boats.

There are others too.

Yes you would be correct stating that I am a 1984 baby. I can/have used imperial measurements in the past but I am far more familiar with metric. The boat I would like would be mostly used on estuary and river openings into the good old pacific. Would not want to go to far from shore.

Duck Flats Wooden Boats here in Adelaide carry a wide range of designs ... they even encourage that Mik Storer bloke
Boat Craft Pacific are another mob though their website seems a bit light in information.
Then there are the designers themselves - Mik Storer, David Payne, Ross Lillistone who is also a member here and should take this opportunity to say something and the others mentioned above.

Found it
Yes I did find a plan I decided as it is my first project I will go with something simple. I have decided to go with the Mushulu 12 from Bowdidge Marine Designs. I have purchased most of the material for the project now all I need is the time. I do recommend using Bowdidge as Mark has contacted me many times just to say hi and see if I need any help. I will hopefuly start soon and catch some fish.

G'day Damon_84,
glad to hear your making progress on your Mushulu 12. Looking forward to seeing a few boatbuilding pictures as your build progresses.
For everybody else, in regards to our plans, their drawn for both imperial and metric measurements.
Have a good one
