Thanks for posting Rickey , but the answer to your question is NO !.
The stern is important to me.
Firstly I like the canoe sterns , or double enders , but thats just a preference.
The main thing is how would I go trolling behind this boat , and tacking with lines out , under sail..
I can see problems , I don't think it would go too well at all.
    But thanks for posting.
    Regards Rob J.

    "TACKING".

Rob, why would you want to "TACK".

    God gave us Diesel engines.

    Yes , I know.
And I've used mine a fair bit too.
But , when I've got things working well (my brain for starters) there is nothing like trolling back and forth in front of a reef , under sail.
Especially when you are catching plenty , you are busier than a 1 armed wallpaper hanger .
The last thing you want is your line hooking up on the boat somewhere , or your boat "locked in irons".

Still trying to find my next boat.
But a question for you blokes .
Have any of you experience with a hydraulic winch ?.
I'm daring to look at a fishing boat that has a strong hydraulic pump on it .
That already handles the capstan , the rudder , the fishing net stuff , even the prop pitch.
    But why not winches too?.
Anyone with any experience with hydraulic winches ?.
There is a bloke in Portland with a motorsailing crayboat that uses hydraulic winches , I should talk to him.

    Harkenstore Product Category .
But I'd love to hear your experiences.

    Hi Rob.

    Go with hydraulics mate.
I have worked heaps of commercial boats here in Tas. Nearly everything run by hydraulics.

The only thing not familiar to me is prop pitch.
But that might be something unique to trawlers or your area.

Take WAVEDANCER up on his kind offer.
    You won't be sorry.

    Thanks Paul .
Jeez , unreal , I pose this question on this post , and get well qualified answers , thanks boys !.
I'm looking (as you know) at rigging up a cray boat type boat , which one , I don't know yet.
But I do know I don't want to be limited by arthritis , I want to get out and get sail up .
I reckon I'll have it set up right from the start for hydraulic winches.
    Thanks boys !.

    Rob.
Hydraulics does not care about arthritis.
If you can use a toggle switch.
    You can.
    Raise your anchor.
    Raise your sails.
    Steer your boat.
    Raise your dinghy onto davits.
Have a deck mounted crane if you want. ?

The only limits are your allowance from the ministry of "war and finance" ,
    Or SWMBA.

Well Paul , the boat has most everything run hydraulic now , it just makes sense to use it for halyards and sheets too.
If/when I get the boat I don't think I'll have much of an argument , 'cuz it really is soul destroying when you get crippled by arthritis.
Instead , with winches I'll be happy as a pig in s--t !.
I'm coming down to Tassie in November , for my sons wedding , and a cruise around , we will have to catch up !.
    One thing I've thought of.
The hydraulic pump is driven off the main engine , if I'm sailing with the engine turned off , then I won't have hydraulic power !.

    Hi Rob.

    2 options.

Start your main engine for the hydraulics, or install a small auxiliary engine (diesel) just to run the hydraulics.

I would use what you have already got. (less expensive).

Talk to WAVEDANCER, he has offered his professional advice.

Well the boat that I tried to buy , shown in post 73 is still for sale , but the owner won't return my calls , or reply to e-mails.
I guess he is telling me something.
Here are a couple of examples of 'sort of' what I'd like to end up with , but not too big. SetSail » Blog Archive » Tromso, Norway – A New Neighbor "Haabet" - Classic Ketch - Baltic Trader Style - www.hugohein.com .

Or this one shows it even better .
    There is no forward/reverse gearbox , just change the pitch , from forward , to reverse. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RnV1odHZLBc]‪M/K FAXEN 50HK Wichmann‬‏ - YouTube[/ame]
