They sell kits by AMATI, AEROPICCOLA, COREL, MOVO,etc.

Amati's "bounty" is spectacular! $496 for the kit, thay have a site but you'll have to do a search and results will be in Italian or Spanish but you'll see the pics in English

Hi Mick and Grue

The mob in Nowra is very good. They have everything you need for model ships. But their kits are more expensive then Hobbyco. I bought the Amati's "bounty" for $250 3 years ago and it is currently $379.

Also, I think Amati is best. They cost a little more but they are very good. (cannons, brass fittings, riggings...). I have had frustrations with other brands but not with Amati.

I guess they want you to get your hands on their colour catalogue so that they can suck you right in.

For those of you interested in wooden vintage ships, the mob who bought out the "Build the Titanic" bi-weekly magazine and model bits will be doing the Victory next. It should be in Australia in a few months so keep your eyes open at your local newsagent.

Your going about this all wrong.
Thats no way to build a model of a ship and hardly and effort worthy of pride.
Building a model of a ship is about BUILDING a model of a ship.
Building shouldn't be looked at as means to OWNING a model ship.

1) Get a copy of Fredrick af Chapmans Architectura Navalis Mercatoria.
2) Get a copy of Steel's Elements of Mastmaking & Rigging 1796
3) Contact Greenwhich Maritime Museum for a copy of the original drawings.
4) Build that little ship from scratch, every trunnel & futtock. Understand how its built, how its designed.

Norway Pine, Fir or Sitka for the spars.
Oak for the keel, stem and stern post.
Elm for the keelson and deadwood.
Oaken frames.
Fir deck.
Greenheart maststep.
Purple heart capping rail
Elm for the blocks
Lignum for the sheaves
Linseed oil, Stockholm tar and White leaded tallow
Flax cloth and Hemp cordage

To hell with kits, Build a mans ship.
