Turning a rowboat into a part time sailboat
My 20 ft rowboat, seen in two of the pictures shown here,
https://www.woodworkforums.com/f169/w...owboat-150598/
showing the outriggers to be removable, also show that there is room between edge of boat to outside of rowing riggers. I plan on using a sail for an around the state of Florida (US) row, paddle, sail race. But, I could use external floats that swivel out , but they would then get in the way of my rowing. So, I came up with the idea of purchasing these 16 foot inflatable amas, 12 inch in diameter, made of that same tough rubberized fabric that a zodiac is made of , and attaching them to boat and bottom of my rowing rigger. My idea is that as the sail causes the boat to tilt over, possibly capsizing, that the 16 foot amas serve roughly the same purpose as amas on a trimaran, but perhaps not quite as efficient, but that would allow me to row whilst sailing. I guess the boat would be a jack of all trades, master of none at that point. Before I go too far down this path, I sure would like to know what you guys think. The inflatable tough amas are $750 us for a pair. kind of expensive for an idea that might not pan out.

Plastic storm water pipe works well for a fraction of the price.
Kick the front foot or two up with a 15degree elbow.
MIK sells plans for 8ft floats. Don't have them in front of me, but I think you get
two out of a single sheet of plywood, plus a couple of pints of epoxy.
cheers
