Snipefish opinions-is Keyhavenpotter about?
I remember Brian was building a couple of these a year or two back and was wondering how they turned out.I've been dealing with cancer surgery and chemo last year and now want a new build, something I can use for enjoyable exercise to drop the 20 kg I put on during that time, and to get a bit fitter-I have a set of plans for the Snipefish but am open to other ideas.
Cheers,
Dave.

You called?
My pal and I were building the Snipefish together and having great fun. He's been so busy sailing all over the place that we haven't met up for a long time.
The Snipefish hull build is actually finished, so am waiting for the weather to warm up before epoxy coating the hull.
The build took place in an old warehouse, just about the coldest place on earth. It's going to be pulled down in the summer so the hull has to be brought home soon.
If you do go for the Snipefish, and it is a very simple build, we two idots managed it, make sure that your plans have the amendment from IO included. We found an error in the transom which really confused us till we spoke to IO. Not an easy call - how do you say to Iain that you think there is an error! He was great about it and sent an amended drawing straight away.

Thanks very much for the transom tip Brian,I doubt it would have occurred to me that the plans were the problem if I found myself in that situation,I'll check with my supplier if he is aware of it too.I'm now looking at the SF Adirondack guideboat too,Paul has advised me that 4mm ply would be OK ,maybe with a few extra laminated ribs-I might build both eventually.
Cheers,
Dave.

Took the hull off the moulds. Amazingly light hull, must be about 20kg. It only uses 2 sheets of 5mm.
looks really nice the right way up. Pictures distort the hull a bit.

Looks terrific Brian.
I won't bother with epoxy sealing the hull on this build,I know of a chap who has simply used Deks on a Grebe or whatever it's called these days, and the topsides of a Eun Mara, with great results-this is to be a fast cheap build for once(famous last words). What sort of oars are you going to use?
Cheers,
Dave.

I recently owned an Oughtred Tirrik that had the brightwork finished with Deks No1 and No2 and it looked superb.

I bought some carbon oars from a school rowing club that was closing down. They need the pintles 5'4" apart which is pretty close to the drawing. they are very light and perfect for the job. The rowers want the very best latest gear, so well worth contacting your local club to see if they have some earlier kit that they don't use now. They sell off lovely wooden oars very cheaply.
