The two boats have very different building methods. The Scoter is stitch and glue and the Bartender is built over a traditional strongback.

I would think the Scoter is a lot better on the seaworthiness side than almost all modern production boats.

Not a criticism of either boat - both are great boats.

The Bartender 22 would be a much better rough water boat then the Scoter 22. I haven't experience with the Scoter in rough water, but did have a ride in a slight chop and it displayed all the usual habits of a boat with this shape. A Bartender, which I have been on in rough conditions is a well suited boat, with full plane capability. This boat has been used by the USCG for patrol and rescue work. Given a choice and expecting rough water work, I'd do the Bartender each time. The Bartender is a good candidate for a taped seam conversion, which would make it lighter and even more efficient.

Given that this thread is about Richard's choice, and the plans he has already bought and committed to, and has waited a long time for, I can't see that it is very helpful to him to be discussing it's perceived (lack of) merits relative to another design. Particularly since he has been challenged in a powerful way already recently. We can pull any design apart and agonise about the pros and cons, but ultimately we build a boat because thats how we see what we want at the time, not in comparison to anything else, but just because of the human sorts of things that ring our particular bells.

Shouldn't a thread here be about constructively supporting people's choices as far as possible?

    thanks Rob

isn't the modern world great, i'm sat here in hospital haveing my first chemoterapy session, whilst on my laptop and my plan to keep me company.

no one can make any type of comparison on the scoter design as sam has only just revised the hull shape to bring up on the plane eaier, the hull is now longer and wider and the stern has been flattened out a bit, this was only done on the 17th of november this year.

And you're going to make him change it already Just because you want to fit a pool table on the second level! Why don't you just move the bar from the third level, it's more accessible to the dancing girls there anyway.

How's giving your laptop chemo going to help the build?

I didn't realize the plans have already been purchased. No doubt the Scoter is a good capable boat, I was merely tossing out an alternative. Hongkongphoie has my full support in every way possible

And hang tough with the chemo. It can be a rough road but you can pull through it.

Keep posting here ... we are in equal parts annoying and entertaining. Useful if you are perched in a room somewhere!
