Anyone know this type of boat?

I saw this small sailboat beached in Penzance Harbour last January and fell in love with the design, but can't seem to find plans anywhere. Does anyone know this design of boat, or even the class of boat so I might know where to start looking for plans?

Sorry mate wouldnt have a clue as to what class or design she is or where to start looking (museum collections maybe?) Anyway just to give it a bump so Mik see her... he should have half a clue at least

It might be a "Jolly Boat", they used to be one of the classes sailed at St Kilda Yacht Club in Melbourne. Not sure about now.

It looks like the typical pommie "dinghy", kept on a mooring, long keel, laid deck and so on. The lines are lovely but it would be very heavy and not suitable for an "off the beach" sailing. Advantages would be stability in a blow, able to punch through a chop, disadvantage would be slow to manoevre due to the long keel, slow to accelerate and hard to stop.
Did you get a look at the sail insignia, often a giveaway as to the class. Failing that, there are a number of UK books with identifying pictures of classes sailed in the old dart. Probably one in your local library.

I think Graeme's got the rights of it.

If you can do without the counter (and with a c/b instead of the keel,) you might find John Welsford's Navigator or Pathfinder almost as attractive.

I see this query is old, so sorry if you already have all the information you need, but the boat is a Haven 12-1/2 footer by the late Joel White. It is a keel/centerboard version of Nathanael Herreshoff's classic full-keel 12-1/2 footer, and the plans are sold by Woodenboat Magazine.

b) A Herreshoff and if so which design and which Herreshoff designed it

Explains almost all.

Joel redrew it to get do a shoal draft version from the full keel.

Was Nat Herreshoff originally.

Sorry to confuse you. It was orginally designed by Herreshoff and re- drawn by White so that it drew less water and could be trailable.

Wow! Lots of replies, and success in finding out the type of boat! I think I promptly forgot about posting the thread about six months ago... thanks very much to everyone who helped!

1400 lbs displacement! Wow, that's like 600 kilos! Crazy. Anyway cheers for the advice.
